Top 5 universities in Wales

The Times and Sunday Times revealed their annual rankings this month and, after looking at the top five universities in England and Scotland over the last two weeks, today we focus our attention on Wales.

1 – Cardiff University

Cardiff University maintained its position as the number one university in Wales for 2015-2016. A member of the Russell Group, Cardiff is one of the most research intensive universities in the UK as a whole, constantly breaking new ground in technology and health.

This year the University recorded its highest ever level of student satisfaction, and Cardiff graduates are more likely to be in employment or further study than any other Russell Group institution.

2 –Swansea University

Swansea University moved up to 41st in this year’s rankings, while also being ranked among some of the world’s elite institutions in the areas of international outlook, research citations and output.

This follows on from a successful 2014 as the University was named University of the Year in the Student Choice Awards, while also being nominated in the Times.

3 – Bangor University

The location, scenery and surrounding area of Bangor University make it one of the most beautiful locations in all of the UK to study. Following the results of the QS World Rankings, Bangor rose 60 places in a newly published table of the worlds most influential universities.

In addition, Bangor programmes in Celtic Studies (Welsh) (2nd), Social Policy (2nd), Agriculture & Forestry (7th), Creative Writing (8th) and Education (10th) all performed impressively in the Times subject rankings.

4 – Aberystwyth University

Aberystwyth University made the biggest gains in this year’s Times University Guide, climbing 14 places and moving from 93rd to 79th. Owed largely to huge improvements with the student experience, the University also climbed into the top 550 universities in the world in the QS rankings.

5 – Cardiff Metropolitan University

Cardiff Metropolitan University has been ranked as the top new university in Wales several times in recent years. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Cardiff Met was ranked as the best post-1992 university in the UK with 80% of the University’s submitted research rated as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
