With the Times & Sunday Times UK University rankings now published, all three major domestic UK tables – including the Guardian and Complete University Guide – are available to view, and it is the University of Cambridge who have topped the ‘table of tables’.

Oxford and St Andrews complete the top three, unmoved from last year’s table. Further down the top 30 though, there is good news for a number of the less traditional heavyweights.

The University of Sussex leaped into 19th position after last appearing in the top 30 in 2012, while Coventry University continued its meteoric rise – thanks in large due to a glowing ranking from the Guardian – into 23rd place. In doing so, Coventry became the first post-1992 institution to appear in the table. The biggest climber from last year’s top 30 was Kent who jumped four places, while Southampton and Leeds both rose by three.
