Times Higher Education revealed the most international universities of 2017 last week, with Imperial College London the leading UK university for the second year in a row.

Professor Alice Gast, President of Imperial, said: “Imperial’s excellence arises from its talented people who come from all over the world. There is something special about a global academic community where people from different cultures contribute diverse perspectives, new ideas, and fresh approaches to solving complex problems.”

Why Imperial is the most international university in the UK

European connections

Imperial’s European connections have grown significantly with 60,000 joint research publications over the past 10 years.

Students and staff

Around 20% of the Imperial student body and 25% of the staff are from other EU and EEA countries and 12% of the College’s research funding comes from the European Commission.

International research opportunities

Imperial’s International Research Opportunities Programme (IROP) offers students the chance to spend 8–10 weeks during the summer vacation at an international partner university. All partner universities have been chosen for their reputation in science and technology, and currently include some of the world’s top institutions.
