Services for International students

We are committed to helping you to achieve on your course, at the highest level of which you are capable and you will have the opportunity to update and improve your academic English skills, through attending our English Language support classes whilst you are on course.

The methods of teaching and learning in the UK may differ from those in your own country. The main philosophy of higher education in the UK is to provide support and guidance, which allows students to develop their creativity and academic skills, whilst learning to adapt and transfer the new knowledge and skills they acquire to new contexts. We encourage students to think creatively and to produce personalised, original and individual solutions to assignments. This means that there is not always a 'right' or a 'wrong' way to answer a set assignment.

You may find that this encouragement of your individual talent, rather than being taught exactly what to do, is quite different from your previous experiences in education; however you will soon realise that it can be very exciting to unlock the individual creativity that you have inside of yourself!

We feel it is important that our students are involved in their own learning process; so as well as a system of us teaching and you learning, you will find yourself participating in seminars, group discussions, group assessments and feedback sessions to and from tutors.

If you have come from an educational background that is more structured towards direct instruction, you may find the UK learning methods challenging at first. However, help and guidance is on hand to support you with your academic progress.

We offer students English Language classes, which are tailored to meet the course requirements at each stage of your study at UCA. Tutorials, with staff specialising in the theoretical aspects of the course, will also help you develop your English Language skills.

We are certain that you will gain confidence, knowledge and acquire new skills during your course of study, which will enable you to further develop your new found skills when you embark on the next stage of your life.
