Comment From Japanese Student
I found that LSE is a really cosmopolitan university.
Almost 70% of its students are from outside of UK.
It means that students do not worry abour their origin. Actually, perticularly Asian students have difficulties in English, but, LSE h as very good and wide-ranged insessional language supporting courses. (Someti mes LSE is called as London School of English...) So, your English must improve rapidly.

Course:
MSc Information systems and organisations (research)
Impression:
My course is basically for the people who wish to go to Ph.D in IS(Information systems) field. Therefore the course structure mainly focuses on the training of research skills in IS area. The key study is Qualitative analysis,Philosophy of this subject, and Statistics. The hardest subject in my course may be the study of Philosophy, because it's very abstract discussion and the way of constructing logic is quite different from other normal subjects. It' quite hard to attend this course. Because first, we have to not only study a lot of research papers and books, but also start to prepare our final dissertation researches just after our entrance. And second, some programs are also provided for the 1st year Ph.D students and we study together. For this reason, the discussion is technical and a level is quite high. To be honest, I don't see a significant difference between my course and the 1st year in Ph.D.
So this course provides the professional technics and knowledge for students who want to study Research technics. But it's far from practical for those who would like to do other jobs.
In this year, there are 11 students(10 fulltime and 1 parttime). There are 4 American, 2 Chinese, 1 British, 1 Canadian, 1 Iranian, 1 Colombian and 1 Japanese(me). 2 students came here just after their undergraduate, 3 students did after their other Masters, and others had work experiences before coming here( includes people who finish other Masters as well). Average age is probably around 28 (37 is the oldest and 23 is the youngest).Personally, I think taking presessional course at the same university where yo u would take a master course is very important, not only for improving English skills but also making new friends. It is not easy for foreign students to make new friends in their own master co urse at the begining. Since they get so many reading lists that they cannnot spend much time in soci alising. But, if you take a presessional course, it is very easy to make a number of fr iends and you can keep the friendship throughout the year. In my case, I have periodically dinner meetings with friends from my presessio nal course. By talking their problem in their own master course, we would have a releaf. So, I strongly recommend to take a presessional course.
I think applicants might think achieving required IELTS score is impossible, b ut without required score it is really impossible to survive at your universit y. So please do your best and overcome it.
