Overview

Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL) is a member of the University of London. The University, originally an all-women establishment called Royal Holloway College, was founded by Thomas Holloway in 1879 and opened by Queen Victoria in 1886. The Royal Holloway campus is one of the most beauitul in the UK and is located just 30 minutes for the centre of London.

Royal Holloway has a student population of over 7,700 with students from over 120 countries. The University offers degree programmes in three faculties: Arts, Science, and History and Social Sciences. In addition to single honours degrees, students can opt for joint honours and major-minor courses.

Royal Holloway has a strong academic reputation, where in the most recent research reviews, French, German, geography and music were judged to be of an international standard. In addition, all of the sciences have been rated "nationally outstanding" for research in 2001, managing to obtain the highest 5 or 5* awards. As of May 2006, Royal Holloway had 7,700 enrolled students from 120 countries. In The Good University Guide, Royal Holloway is ranked 22 in Britain.

Services for International Students

Student Services co-ordinates Royal Holloway’s support services and accommodation as well as dealing with individual student problems. The Students’ Union also has a welfare, advice and information service, and runs a nightline counseling service for students.

Accommodation

There are 2, 943 places in halls, prioritized for first years and overseas students. Something to suit all tastes and budgets, catered and self-catered. Environmentally-sensitive new halls with sedum-planted roofs completed in 2004. Provide 565 en-suite study bedrooms. A further 466 en-suite study bedrooms opened in September 2007.

Campus

Royal Holloway's campus in Egham is set in 135 acres of woodland, resting between Windsor and Heathrow. By rail, the campus is 35 minutes from the centre of London, 19 miles away in total, and Windsor is also short journey away. It has been said that the campus's environment "offers the best of both worlds - friendly and relaxed on the one hand, dynamic and busy on the other. The Independent stated that Royal Holloway is "Renowned for its friendly and supportive environment".

Health centre

Royal Holloway has an on-campus Health Centre for students which provides cover from 9am to 6.30pm during term time with emergency numbers available 24 hours. Royal Holloway also offers an independently run childcare facility for children aged between two and five.
