St Mary’s University will be attending the 2014 UK University Fair in London. For more information about the fair, or to register, please visit the UK University Fair website.

St Mary’s University is generally considered the oldest Catholic university in the UK, founded in 1850. Originally founded as a teacher training college, it now offers a full range of courses, although one third of students still take teaching courses. It is particularly renowned for the flexibility offered in joint-honours degrees at undergraduate level, with many subject combinations possible. St Mary’s is located in Twickenham in south west London.

International students account for almost 10% of the total student population of around 4,000, and follow full degree as well as Study Abroad and Erasmus programmes. The college also has a strong reputation in sport and sports research, counting a number of Olympians amongst its alumni, staff and research partners.

Services for International Students

Both pre-sessional and in-sessional English lessons are available for international students who want or need to improve their English language score for study. In addition, more general support is offered by chaplains, accommodation wardens and Student Services.

As a university college, St Mary’s is rarely included in university league tables. However, The Guardian University Guide ranked it 89th for 2014. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, 23% of research submitted was considered to be ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

Halls of residence are generally located on or near the campus, in a range of traditional halls or smaller houses in Twickenham. 16 Strawberry Road is popular with international students as it allows accommodation outside term time in the Christmas break, as well as a location close to the university and a warden who is on hand for support and help settling in. During term time, all accommodation includes two catered meals a day.

The college is situated just a few minutes away from the River Thames in the grounds of the historic Strawberry Hill House. St Mary's uses some of the 19th Century rooms in the house but also benefits from the lovely grounds and the self contained campus they provide. Additional sports grounds are located just ten minutes walk away. The campus is in Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, south west London.

Away from Twickenham, the large riverside towns of Kingston and Richmond are just a short bus ride away, and students will find a huge range of entertainment there. In addition, central London is just 30 minutes’ train ride away.
