Overview

Established in 1992, Staffordshire University has evolved into one of the UK's most dynamic, progressive and forward-thinking learning institutions. Staffordshire University has a long and proud history of providing high quality, progressive and inclusive higher education for people from across Staffordshire, the region, the UK and the rest of the world.

16,000 students make up the University's vibrant cultural mix from the UK and around the world. One of the first things visitors notice about Staffordshire University is the wide diversity of ages, backgrounds, cultures, nationalities and lifestyles that make up the community.

Staffordshire University also runs a number of vocational courses, including a wide range of employer-backed foundation degrees, through their long-established network of further education colleges throughout Staffordshire and into Shropshire. This nationally recognised consortium is known as SURF (Staffordshire University Regional Federation).

Location

The University has two main campuses - one in Stoke-on-Trent and the other in Stafford and four smaller campuses. Both campuses are in the county of Staffordshire, which is in the region known as The Midlands.

The city of Stoke-on-Trent is in North Staffordshire, 45 minutes from Manchester by train; the town of Stafford is in South Staffordshire, about 1 hour from Birmingham. Stoke and Stafford are 17 miles apart. Stoke-on-Trent, which now has a population of over 250,000 people, is a vibrant modern city world renowned for its industrial heritage and the local area is often referred to as 'The Potteries' because of its long history of ceramic design and manufacture.

Campuses

The campus in Stoke makes a great base for travel throughout the United Kingdom. It provides an environment that combines industrial heritage, modern commercial developments and areas of outstanding natural beauty to offer you a truly unique atmosphere in which to study.

South of the county, Stafford is a picturesque market town. Close by, you can enjoy the inspiring and relaxed atmosphere at our contemporary Stafford campus from the relaxed environment of our café-bars to late night entertainment at our music venues.

The Staffordshire University Lichfield Centre is a unique partnership between Staffordshire University and South Staffordshire College. It is well known for its lovely grounds and special atmosphere, with a “can do” philosophy that students and staff alike are consistently happy with. The Lichfield campus is 15 miles by road from Stafford and is situated in the centre of Lichfield.

Nursing and midwifery courses are taught at Stafford and, following the integration into the University in 1995 of the Shropshire and Staffordshire College of Nursing and Midwifery, there are also bases in Shrewsbury, Telford and Oswestry.

The Shrewsbury campus is situated in the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital. The Two main campuses (Stoke-on Trent and Stafford) and the Lichfield campus all have purpose built Business Villages; which consist of fully furnished small office spaces with full internet access included.

Ranking

Staffordshire is ranked 77th in the Times Good University ranking 2011.

Support for International Students

The International Student Centre (ISC) is part of Staffordshire University's Student Office and provides a wide range of support for international students including English language teaching, academic and cultural support as well as specialist immigration advice. The Centre is staffed with a team of highly qualified, very friendly and experienced English language teachers and two international student advisers. Many of the staff have extensive experience of working overseas.
