Academic Year 2019
Scholarship amount £25,000

Scholarship Deadline 5 July 2019

Through the generous donations made by UCL alumni and friends we are able to offer additional undergraduate funding awards each year. These awards enable UK/EU undergraduate students, from a diverse range of backgrounds, to take up their offer of study at UCL.

Listed below are the schemes available to those starting in academic year 2019/20.  By submitting one application, you will then be considered for those schemes where you meet the eligibility criteria.

Application and deadline

  • Please read the online guidance notes before submitting your online application.
  • You need to hold an offer of a place to study at UCL for academic year 2019/20 in order to apply.
  • Please use the Student Finance Online Calculator before completing the online application. It is highly recommended you apply to Student Finance England (or your regional funding authority) as early as possible. You do not need to wait for the outcome of their assessment before submitting your UCL funding application.
  • If your fee status is unresolved, you will not be able to access the online application. Please contact Admissions immediately to resolve your fee status.
  • Those opting not to take a maintenance loan can still be income-assessed by completing the PFF2 form.
  • The deadline for the application is: Friday, 5 July 2019 at 5pm (UK time).

The aim of the Douglas Johnson Scholarship is to enable and encourage students in financial need and studying for an undergraduate degree offered by UCL Department of History. One award is available for the 2019/20 academic session.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants for the scholarship must:

  • hold a UK/EU fee status;
  • hold an offer of admission to UCL to study a full-time undergraduate degree within the History Department (including joint honours) for the 2019/20 intake (commencing in September 2019).

Selection criteria

The criterion for awarding the scholarship is financial need and you will need to demonstrate this in the application.

Value: benefits and duration

The award will be £25,000 per year, based on a three year programme (if you are on a longer programme, we will pro-rata the payment) and is subject to satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship is awarded to cover full fees and support maintenance costs.
