Queen's University is a university in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Queen's University Belfast was chartered in 1845 and opened in 1849 as "Queen's College, Belfast", but has roots going back to 1810 and the Belfast Academical Institution.

Queen's University provides housing for both undergraduates and postgraduates, although because of the compact size of Northern Ireland many domestic students chose to live at home and commute to the University. In 2005/06, 36 per cent of Queen's University students lived in private accommodation within Belfast, 29 per cent lived with parents or guardians, 20 per cent in private accommodation outside of Belfast, and 10 per cent lived in university maintained accommodation.

Queen's University Belfast provides accommodation on a purpose-built 'student village' called Elms Village, which has its own bar and shop, located on the Malone Road, south of the main campus, as well as in a number of houses in the South Belfast area, including at College Gardens and on Mount Charles.

Campus

Queen's University is located in Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland which is part of the UK. The international media has described Belfast as "Europe's friendliest - and trendiest - regional city" and "one of today's most fashionable places to visit and live". Such high praise is no longer unexpected in a city that is effectively casting off its old troubled image and whose citizens are proud to show off its fresh face to the world. Belfast has a population of almost half a million people - a third of Northern Ireland's population.

Health centre

There is a full range of on-campus Health facilities at Queen's University Belfast with doctors, nurses and dentists. All students have full access to the health centre and all health care fees are fully covered by the National health centre for full time students.
