An economics student at the De Montfort University, Amarjit Bains will be working for UNUM at the starting salary of £31,000. Amarjit won his place on their extremely competitive future leaders professional development programme.
The application process consisted of a first telephonic interview, followed by a video interview, and a six hour online test was held two days before he called at the assessment centre. And before having final interview, he and other candidates had dinner with the UNUM’s US and UK CEO’s and senior management.
After landing the job, he said “I was really happy,” he said. “It was really intense and hard work, but to have a job, especially one as good as this, lined up already is incredible. My family are so pleased.”
“My placement was absolutely phenomenal, it was such a good year. It gave me the confidence not only in my ability but also in communicating with people. It definitely helped in the interview and I knew to do my homework, I researched the company and everyone I would be meeting, which meant I had lots of questions to fire at them!”
On his University, he said: “Every university offers support, but I think DMU offers the complete experience. There’s a cultural aspect – the campus is very diverse, and a great social side, too. They really look after you while you are at university but are also looking forward to make sure that you can succeed once you leave.”

I sincerely thank SI-UK for getting me accepted to UCL. The MSc in Urban Development and Planning is extremely competitive, but the right guidance provided by SI-UK made my dream of studying at University College London a reality. The services were exceptional from beginning to end.
