Swansea has conferred Hillary Clinton with an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree

02 November 2017

The former US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton is a figure of "enormous international significance and one synonymous with human rights”. She receives Doctorate in Law from Swansea University in recognition of her commitment to promoting the rights of families and children around the world. This is the great commitment that she has shared with Swansea’s Observatory on the Human rights of Children and Young People.

Hillary Clinton’s commitment towards human rights can be linked back to her notion "human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights” that she has used on 5 September 1995, at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. It clearly states her responsible undertaking towards humanity.

The award was presented to Mrs Clinton at a congregation in the University’s Great Hall.

Swansea University has renamed its Law School the Hilary Rodham Clinton School of Law.

Following her investiture, Mrs Clinton unveiled a Commemorative stone to mark the renaming of Swansea University’s College of Law and Criminology to the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. Expressing her special ancestral connections with Swansea and Wales, Mrs Clinton One of the most powerful and important women of age also stated that she would like to drive the mission of the Law School for generations to come that is “Children’s Rights are Human Rights”.

The School of Law has shared values with Mrs Clinton, particularly in terms of its work to promote the Human Rights of Children and Young People.

Symbolising its support for the values of Social Justice and Rights by the significant beginning of meaningful relation with Hillary Clinton, the University is looking forward to promote and protect human rights through policy, practice, advocacy and law reform.
