Home to the curious, brave, and bold. We’re a university where curiosity prevails, and where exploring new ways of thinking and pushing boundaries, isn’t just encouraged, it’s expected. We’re about people who love to learn how, but want to challenge why.
We were named University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards 2018 for our determination to do things differently and put student success at the centre of everything we do.
With over 15,500 students from more than 140 different countries, making us one of the most internationally diverse universities on the planet – you’ll find the world in one place here at Essex.
At Essex, you’re taught by world-leading academics in a support and research-intensive environment. Our trailblazing research continues to change the world for the better and we are ranked 25th in the UK for research quality (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021). We’re proud to have provided excellence in research and excellence in education for over 50 years.

The flexibility of our courses gives you the power to pursue the things that matter to you. Now’s your chance to join Nobel Prize-winners, award-winning directors, presidents, well-loved actors, astronauts and over 100,000 other alumni who have gone on to shape the world and share their Essex spirit.
