St George's, University of London Overview

St George’s, University of London is the only specialist provider of medical and health sciences higher education in the UK, providing education, training and world class research. The institution itself is attached to St George’s Hospital, one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals, and was founded in 1733. It is considered the UK’s specialist health university.

As well as a standard medical degree, St George’s offers a number of related subjects, such as Biomedical Science and Paramedic Science. St George’s boasts impressive employment statistics, with 96% of students across all subjects going on to employment or further study six months after graduating, with the proportion increasing to 100% for medical graduates.

An Advanced Patient Simulator allows students to practice their medical skills on real-life situations, working with computer-controlled mannequins that simulate a wide range of health problems. State-of-the-art labs also help testing a student’s ability to a wide range of medical tasks.

St George's offers a dedicated International Student Support service within the more general Student Centre, which offers support of all kinds to all students. Welcome Weekends run at the beginning of the year and introduces international students to life in London and the University. The results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 have revealed that St George’s, University of London has ranked joint 8th in the country for research impact out of 129 institutions, according to scores calculated by Times Higher Education. 100% of St George’s impact cases were judged as world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) and 36% of St George’s research was assessed as “world-leading” (4*) – an increase compared to the REF 2014 score of 30%.

All international students are prioritised a place in University accommodation for their first year. Accommodation is split between St George’s’ Horton Halls and the University of London’s intercollegiate halls. Horton Halls of Residence houses almost 500 students in self-catering single study/bedroom units, each unit with its own en-suite facilities. Intercollegiate halls, as well as private ones, can be found across London.

St George's is located in south-west London on the same site as St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, just five minutes’ walk from Tooting Broadway Tube station. There are also several buses that stop directly outside St. George’s and Tooting Broadway for travel into the centre of London.
