National Student Survey announces University of St Andrews as UK's top mainstream university

Results from the 2022 National Student Survey (NSS) have revealed that the University of St Andrews is the UK's top mainstream university.

It is the 14th time in the last 16 years that the Scottish university has been at the very top for student experience, with more than 89% of final year students at the University giving the University top marks for the quality of the learning and teaching experience. The University of St Andrews was also ranked in the top ten for 22 subject areas.

The National Student Survey is an annual survey of nearly half a million final-year undergraduate students who are asked to score their university across a wide range of measures, including quality of teaching, academic support and organisation and management.

Vice-Principal Education (Proctor) Clare Peddie said: “We are delighted to rank top once again in the NSS. We value this positive feedback from our student community as it reflects the University’s commitment to the very highest standards of learning, teaching, and student experience.

“The results are a testament to the hard work of our academic and professional service staff during a challenging year to provide students with the highest quality support, innovative learning and contact with some of the best researchers in the world."
