UK government advised to double the post-study work visa from two to four years by former minister

15 June 2020

Jo Johnson, the former universities minister, has recommended the implementation of a four-year post-study UK work visa as a tactic to help UK higher education overcome the effects of Coronavirus and Brexit.

In a new report, Universities open to the world: How to put the bounce back in Global Britain, published by King's College London and Harvard Kennedy School, Mr Johnson suggested that doubling the post-study work visa from two to four years and launching a new marketing drive in India to double the number of students from the country by 2024 could help buck the current malaise which has set in following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Johnson also added: “A Tier 4 visa that promises four years of post-study work rights will be of huge advantage to the UK in India, where students are particularly sensitive to this opportunity.”
