UK government announces further easing of international travel rules

21 September 2021

The UK Government has announced a huge overhaul to its international travel rules, making it easier for international and EU students arriving in the UK.

From 4am on Monday 4th October, the traffic-light system is to be scrapped, with green and amber list countries forming one category of low-risk countries. Additional focus will be placed on vaccination status, with double-jabbed people enjoying far more freedom to travel and ease of access into the UK.

From Wednesday 22nd September, a number of countries will be removed from the UK Government’s red list, including:

  • Bangladesh
  • Egypt
  • Kenya
  • Pakistan
  • Sri Lanka
  • Turkey

Travellers arriving in the UK from low-risk countries will now no longer need to take a pre-departure test, take a day 8 COVID-19 test or quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days after you arrive in England. Full details can be found here.
