UK universities see a huge increase in international student enrolments

The number of international students studying at UK universities has increased to a record high following the release of new data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
The total number of international students at UK universities in 2021/22 was 679,970, a 12.3% increase from the previous academic year. The overall increase was down to students from outside the EU studying in the UK, with 559,825 students enrolled, a 23.8% increase.
China remains the most popular source for international students studying in the UK, closely followed by India. One of the biggest jumps in international enrolment was sourced from Nigeria, with over 44,000 students choosing UK universities, a 107% increase from the previous year.
