Overview

The University of Kent is located just outside Canterbury in south-east England and was founded in 1965. Because of its location in the UK, Kent is known as the ‘The UK’s European University’, giving students plenty of opportunity to travel to Europe and beyond. The University offers numerous opportunities to travel and study at over 100 European partner institutions, while work placements are also encouraged both in the UK and around the world.

The University of Kent is ranked 16th in the Guardian University Guide, while it is among the top 80 'under 50' universities by the Times Higher Education. In the 2015 National Student Survey, Kent ranked fifth overall, being in a select group of universities to score 90% or above.

Kent is continually expanding its facilities and courses offered. A secondary campus in Medway is shared with Canterbury Christ Church and Greenwich Universities is home to the new School of Pharmacy and a Faculty of Arts. Recent investment has taken place in refreshing the iconic Templeman Library and building new facilities for sculpture and music. Kent currently has just under 20,000 students from over 120 countries enrolled.

Services for International Students

The University of Kent’s Centre for English and World Languages offers lessons in English and other languages for all students. These are available as standalone courses before the start of term or as modules which can count towards a final degree. Each student is assigned a personal tutor who can assist them academically or personally with any problems. There are also numerous international student societies, both general and country-specific.

Ranking

Kent has also achieved a top ten position in ten subject areas in the Guardian rankings. The ten subjects are: Architecture 3rd; Drama & dance 10th; Economics 9th; English & creative writing 8th; Film production & photography 3rd; History of art 6th; Journalism 6th; Politics 10th; Religious studies & theology 8th; and Social policy 4th.

Following the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Kent ranked 17th of 122 institutions in the UK for research intensity, while 97% of research was judged to be of international quality.

Accommodation

New first year students who select Kent as their first choice are guaranteed a place in University accommodation. At the Canterbury campus, most rooms are en suite and many offer catering options, while all postgraduate rooms are en suite and self-catered. Rooms are available as flats, studio apartments or shared houses in the nearby student village and are generally arranged in a collegiate system.

Rooms at the Medway Campus are all en suite and recently built, arranged in flats of five to eight people. They are managed by Liberty Living, separate from the University, and shared with students from Canterbury Christ Church and Greenwich Universities.

Location

Kent’s main campus is in an area of parkland overlooking the historic city of Canterbury in Kent. The University has additional sites in Medway and Tonbridge in Kent, and European postgraduate centres in Brussels, Athens and Paris. Kent is close to both London and Europe through the Channel Tunnel in Dover.

Breckett Front My counsellor contacted me every day throughout the application process and helped me receive an unconditional offer. I am so grateful to SI-UK and will never forget them. I will study very hard as I feel this is the best reward I can give the whole team.
