GREAT Scholarships are jointly funded by Cardiff University with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign and the British Council.

Applications for 2023 entry are now open and the deadline for applications is 23:59 (UK time) on 31 May 2023.

Students from Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Turkey who will enrol onto a one-year postgraduate programme in the 2023/24 academic year are invited to apply for a GREAT scholarship, offering £10,000 towards tuition fees.

Six scholarships are available, with one scholarship allocated to each of the six eligible countries.

Eligibility Criteria 

Postgraduate Taught Applicants – Conditional Offer Holders 

  • You must pay your deposit by the deadline stated in your original/first offer. If you are granted a deposit extension you must pay by your new deadline. This applies until 31 July - scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who make their deposit payment after 31 July 2023.

  • You must accept your offer and meet all the offer conditions, including any English Language conditions as stated in your offer by 16 September 2023. 

Postgraduate Taught Applicants – Unconditional Offer Holders

  • If you are holding an Unconditional Offer, you must confirm this offer as a Firm choice. 

  • You must pay your deposit by the deadline stated in your original/first offer. If you are granted a deposit extension you must pay by your new deadline. This applies until 31 July - scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who make their deposit payment after 31 July 2023.

  • You must also accept your offer by 16 September 2023. 

All Students 

  • The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2023 is available to eligible students studying on selected Postgraduate Taught degree programmes. 

  • The scholarships are for all Postgraduate Taught degree programmes.

  • Postgraduate Certificate/ Diploma awards are not included in the scheme

  • Applications to the scholarship scheme must be submitted by 23:59 (UK time) on 31 May 2023. 

  • In order to apply, you must have already submitted an application to study at Cardiff University. 

Terms and Conditions 

  • The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2023 is a £10,000 award applied to students entering into year 1 of a programme. It is applied to your first year of study only. 

    • This will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount only and cannot be used inplace of any required deposit. No cash alternative is available

    • Six scholarships of £10,000 will be awarded to students who are nationals of Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, or Turkey, with one scholarship awarded per country. 

  • The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2023 is for entry into Cardiff University in the autumn semester of academic year 2023/24 only and cannot be used any other year of entry. 

    •  If you are awarded a scholarship and wish to defer your entry to the University your scholarship will not be transferred. However, you will be eligible to apply for scholarships applicable for 2024/25 entry.

  •  Future requests for further funding will not be considered under this scheme. 

  • Applicants who are in receipt of any other scholarship, bursary, funding or discount will not be eligible for this Scholarship. 

  • The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2023 is available for full-time and Cardiff campusbased programmes only.
