Overview

Falmouth University is a multi-arts university located on the south-west coastline of England, in Cornwall. Based across two campuses in Falmouth and the nearby town of Penryn, it was initially founded in 1902 before officially becoming a university in 2012.

Virtual reality. Green energy. Culture-shifting content. Nothing in this world has ever been achieved without an injection of creativity – it's what Falmouth calls the Creative Bridge.

Creativity is an invaluable resource in the future economy. At a time when machines, data, robotics and AI are upending the old industries and changing the way we live, when demographics are shifting and our environment is changing, it's creativity that will provide solutions to today’s complex challenges across every sector.

So, the University are fostering the fusion of creativity and technology to bring about new ideas, new ways of thinking, doing, making and creating – working in sectors as diverse as eHealth, agri-tech, fintech, fashion, tourism and immersive technology.

Services for International Students

Falmouth University has an international society where students can meet, socialise and take part in events to various locations of historical or cultural interest. The University offers a range of discipline-specific language courses for free, as well as social English and CV writing skill classes.

There is a free pickup service from London Heathrow Airport at the beginning of term and, once a month, a three-day orientation programme is available to introduce students to the Cornish countryside, university and its students. Also included are introductory sessions on visas, bank accounts, accommodation and employment.

Accommodation

Falmouth offers a variety of accommodation options, with five Halls of Residence in the Falmouth and Penryn area. The majority of Halls are self-catered with en-suite bathrooms and all have shared kitchen and laundry facilities. Catered Halls are also available at Glasney Student Village.

The University also focuses on green travel for students and work with local transport companies to make getting around as easy as possible. Dedicated University buses run every ten minutes between the Falmouth and Penryn campuses, and you can buy a Fal Mussel Card UNI for unlimited travel on all First buses in Cornwall. Both campuses have secure bike storage facilities and free showers for cyclists.

Location

Falmouth is located in Cornwall in the south-west of England, an area of natural beauty and a long history of association with the arts. It is a popular tourist destination for its views, beaches and small villages. Cornwall has a heritage and culture distinct from the rest of the UK, and features lively towns and peaceful landscapes. It is one of the warmest and sunniest areas of the UK.

The Falmouth campus is surrounded by subtropical gardens. The town itself is a traditional seaside settlement with the third deepest natural harbour in the world. Penryn is one of Cornwall’s most ancient towns, and is much smaller. The newer campus means that students can live and work with modern architecture and technology in a compact setting.
