Austin Merrills was Vice Chair of the Board of Governors at GSA until 1997; shortly before his death. Austin was also the Chairman of Ireland Alloys which, after his death, made a donation to GSA. Austin was interested in digital media/virtual reality and the scholarship has been designated a School of Simulation and Visualisation specialist award.
