Scholarships at University of Gloucestershire

In 2023/24, scholarships of up to £6,625 per annum will be offered to University of Gloucestershire students of Home status, who have been in local authority care in the UK.

The Care Leavers Scholarship consists of:

• a 50% tuition fee waiver for each year of full-time study AND

• a bursary towards general living or accommodation costs: See note 1

  • £2000 in the first year (Level 4)

  • £1000 in the second year (Level 5)

  • £1000 in the final year (Level 6). This amount can be increased to £2000, if the student has an average pass mark of 60% or more at Level 5.

Note 1: The bursary can be received as discounted halls of residence fees, OR cash support for students living in private accommodation.

Eligibility

Eligible students will:

• have been in the care of a local authority in the UK for a period of 3 months or more between the age of 14 and school-leaving age (18 years)

• be a new entrant to the university for the 2023/24 academic year

• be entering their first year of full-time undergraduate study at level 4, 5 or 6.

• be a ‘Home’ student for tuition fee purposes and be eligible for full tuition fees of £9,250

• be aged under 25 at their point of entry

• not hold an equivalent or higher qualification i.e. you must not already hold a qualification that is equivalent or higher to the BA/BSc degree that you will be undertaking

• not be studying on a franchise, hybrid or validated University of Gloucestershire course at another institution

Scholarship awards regarding general living costs are paid directly into students’ bank accounts in three instalments;

A scholarship holder who transfers from full-time to part-time enrolment will cease to be eligible to hold the scholarship.

A student on their year-long placement (as part of a ‘sandwich’ programme) will only be entitled to the 50% fee waiver whilst on placement.  

The Care Leavers Scholarship is only available to students studying on courses delivered by the University of Gloucestershire. The scholarship will be terminated for any student who ceases to be enrolled as a student of the University of Gloucestershire. If either the scholarship or enrolment are terminated for any reason, the student must repay the University any monies overpaid, based on a pro-rata calculation from the date of the termination.

The University of Gloucestershire has a dedicated Money Advice Team to offer information, advice and guidance on all aspects of student finance. They provide a confidential service to prospective and current students.

In 2023/24 the university will award at least 20 new Sports Scholarships to athletes, coaches and officials. The number of awards and amount given to each student is dependent on how many applications are received and the level of performance of the applicants and engagement with the programme.

To be considered, athletes/officials/coaches must perform in a sport that:

• Is an Olympic/Paralympic/Commonwealth programme

• Is part of the BUCS competition programme

• Is available to practice within our Students’ Union Clubs

• Has a National Governing Body and is a Sports England recognized sport.

Eligibility

Students applying for the bursaries should meet the relevant criteria for each award:

Athlete Scholars

Bronze – Junior national or academy level in a University ‘focus sport’

Silver – Represented your chosen sport at national level (in a squad, pathway or competition)

Gold – Represented your chosen sport at international level (in a squad, pathway or competition) or professional contract within a University ‘investment sport’

Officiating Scholars

Bronze – Qualified official working at a higher standard than entry level, with supporting reports

Silver – Qualified official working at national competition level or above, with supporting reports

Gold – Qualified official working at international competition level, with supporting reports

Coach Scholars

Sports Coaching scholar – Qualified coach, with evidence of experience and supporting references

Strength & Conditioning Scholar – Following interview process from S&C lead. Internal applicants only

Students offered a Sports Scholarship will:

• Be enrolled at the University of Gloucestershire on an eligible course

• Have an outstanding ability in a particular sport

• Complete all review tasks set by the Sports Scholarship Team

• Demonstrate that they have met targets set for their academic work, sporting performance and any contribution agreed at the beginning of the year or added to their regular review meetings held throughout the academic year.

• Sign a Scholarship Agreement accepting terms and conditions. This includes agreeing to compete and represent the University in the BUCS competitions and championships, subject to negotiation.

• Act as an ambassador at events such as University Open and Applicant Days. It is anticipate scholars will attend at least 2 open or applicant days.

• Commit fully to the ethos and culture of the Sports Scholarship programme

The University is pleased to offer a number of undergraduate scholarships to recognise academically excellent students and/or students who can demonstrate a strong creative portfolio, where required. The International Undergraduate Scholarship is worth 50% of the international undergraduate 2023/24 annual tuition fee for the first year of study. It is applied as a tuition fee waiver across each year of study.

Students must be studying full-time for a minimum of three years on campus. The scholarship will be in the form of a tuition fee waiver, a discount split across all years of study.

Students must apply online for the scholarship and meet the University’s entry criteria. Demonstration of excellent work experience and/or a strong creative portfolio (if required) will be considered in addition to grades. An interview may be required.

In order to apply for the scholarship, you must be holding an offer from University of Gloucestershire for a degree starting in September 2023 or January 2024. Applicants can only make a single scholarship application in any academic year. Applications will not be deferred to another intake.

The University is pleased to offer a number of postgraduate scholarships to recognise academically excellent students and students who can demonstrate strong work experience or creative portfolio (if required). The International Postgraduate Scholarship is worth 50% of the international postgraduate taught 2023/24 tuition fee.

Students must be studying a full-time postgraduate taught degree on campus. The scholarship will be in the form of a tuition fee waiver.

Students must apply online for the scholarship and meet the University’s entry criteria. Demonstration of excellent work experience and/or a strong creative portfolio (if required) will be considered in addition to grades. An interview may be required.

In order to apply for the scholarship, you must be holding an offer from University of Gloucestershire for a degree starting in September 2023 or January 2024. Applicants can only make a single scholarship application in any academic year. Applications will not be deferred to another intake.
