Details

An award of £1,000 for all new UK and EU fee-paying undergraduates admitted onto a degree offered by Newcastle University’s School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. The award is for the first year of study only.

Eligibility 

To be eligible students must:

  • achieve A*AA at A level (A2) or equivalent including any subjects specified in their offer but excluding A level General Studies
  • have made Newcastle University their first choice (Conditional or Unconditional Firm) by 1 August 2020

Marine Technology

Shipwrights Ark Scholarship

This scholarship has been kindly provided by the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights to further the education of Marine Technology.

Details

One scholarship of £2,000 is available each year to Marine Technology students.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award you must:

  • be an undergraduate home student ordinarily resident in the UK studying a Marine Technology course within the School of Engineering.

Awarding is based on academic ability and financial need.

How to apply

The award is given out to stage one students following semester one exam results.

Details

Music

Undergraduate Music Scholarships

Details

Four £5,000 scholarships are available to new undergraduate students entering a degree offered by Newcastle University’s International Centre for Music Studies in September 2020. 

  • Two David Barlow Scholarships
  • Valentine Ord Scholarship 
  • Isobel Preece Scholarship

We will award the scholarship in the first year of study and pay it in two equal instalments, the first in December 2020 and the second in April 2021.

Eligibility

To be considered for a scholarship, you must hold an offer of admission for 

  • BA Honours Music (W300)
  • BMus Honour Music (W304)
  • BA Honours Contemporary and Popular Music (W301)
  • or BA Honours Folk and Traditional Music (W344)

You must have also attended an Interview Day (academic interview and audition), and be a new UK, EU or international student commencing your studies in 2020.

Successful candidates may not be in receipt of other funding from the University.

How to apply

You do not need to apply for these scholarships. Eligible candidates will automatically be considered for a scholarship on the basis of their academic merit, musical track record and performance at an Interview Day.

Successful candidates will be notified in April 2020 and must firm accept our offer to receive the scholarship.

Faculty of Medical Sciences UG Excellence Scholarships (FUES)

Details

The Faculty of Medical Sciences offers scholarships worth £4,000 a year for 2020 entry in the following areas:

Pharmacy Scholarship

2 x £4,000 a year for duration of your course (and linked to achievement), £16,000 value in total per student.

Applicable courses:

Nutrition Scholarship

1 x £4,000 a year for the duration of your course (and linked to achievement), £12,000 value in total per student. 

Applicable courses: 

  • Food and Human Nutrition BSc Honours B46D
  • Food and Human Nutrition with Placement BSc Honours B4D6
  • Nutrition with Food Marketing BSc Honours BD46
  • Nutrition with Food Marketing with Placement BSc Honours BD64

Psychology Scholarship

1 x £4,000 a year for the duration of your course (and linked to achievement), £12,000 value in total per student. 

Applicable courses:

  • Psychology BSc Honours C800
  • Psychology and Nutrition BSc Honours C8B4
  • Psychology and Sport and Exercise Science BSc Honours C8C6
  • Psychology and Biology BSc Honours C8C1

Start date and duration

September 2020 for each consecutive year of study. 

Eligibility

Applicants will be eligible to apply via a form that will be emailed to offer holders. The closing date for applying will be 25 June 2020.

Applicants from the following countries are not eligible to apply for the FUES awards: Algeria, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Thailand, Turkey, the USA and Vietnam. The University offers specific schemes for these countries. 

Applicants are assessed on the following requirements, via their grades and personal statement. 

You must demonstrate:

  • a knowledge of Newcastle University and a commitment to studying at Newcastle University
  • programme research (e.g. demonstrate you have looked at the modules on this course and show knowledge of the structure)
  • academic excellence, including English language

Personal statements will be reviewed and shortlisted by the International Lead for each School. A final decision will be made by the Dean of Undergraduate and Taught Programmes. 

If approved, you will be offered a scholarship conditionally by 1 August 2020, and will be confirmed once all academic and English language requirements have been met. 

Scholarships are reviewed annually, and students need to meet academic progression in all modules at 60% or higher. 

The following students are not eligible to receive the Faculty of Medical Sciences UG Excellence Scholarship: 

  • UK or EU students assessed as 'home' for fee purposes
  • holders of fully funded scholarships (full payment of fees and living expenses) such as Chevening Scholarships, Commonwealth Scholarships or other fully sponsored awards
  • holders of any other scholarships, including the Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships, Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarships and the Vice-Chancellor's Global Scholarships
  • students in receipt of India Great Scholarships or Santander Scholarships
  • pathway students progressing to University from INTO Newcastle
  • current students, registered in 2018/19 or earlier, who have already commenced their undergraduate studies at the time of award. Awards cannot be made retrospectively 
  • applicants initially assessed as international for fee purposes but whose fees change to 'home'

One scholarship is available each year to a Medical student entering Newcastle University via the PARTNERS Programme. The award amount is £1,000 in stages one to four, and £2,000 in stage five.

To be eligible for this award you must:

  • have entered Newcastle University via the PARTNERS Programme;
  • be a stage one undergraduate student in Medicine.

Patch Fund for Dentistry

Patch Fund at the Community Foundation. The award is from a generous anonymous benefactor to assist students, from the North East, with their Dental studies

Details

Up to five awards are available to Dental students from the North East. The award is worth £1,000 for the first four stages of study.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award you must:

  • be a stage one undergraduate student in Dentistry;
  • eligible students are those who have been resident in the North East for five years or more. Postcodes include those beginning: NE, SR, DH, DL, TD, TS.
