he University of Sheffield has a strong commitment to international development. One of the themes of our strategy is ‘celebrating, promoting and increasing the volume of the work that we do to improve the lives of others through our international relationships, locally and abroad’.
Building on this commitment the University, in collaboration with the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust and the Sheffield Institute for International Development, is now able to offer three scholarships per year targeted at international students from developing countries for a number of courses that are affiliated with the Sheffield Institute for International Development.
2022 Scholarships
There are three scholarships available to academically strong individuals from developing countries. Each scholarship offers the following:
A full tuition fee waiver
Maintenance for University accommodation and a monthly stipend
Eligibility criteria
You must hold an offer by 6 May 2022 for one of the following courses to study at the University of Sheffield in the 2022/23 academic year:
International Development MA
Environmental Change and International Development MSc
International Development (Masters in Public Health) MPH
International Law and Global Justice LLM
International Political Economy MA
Global Journalism MA
International Public and Political Communication MA
Intercultural Communication MA
You must be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
You must be self-funded to receive this award, i.e. not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity or any similar organisation.
This scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other funding awards, either from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
Your mode of attendance must be full time.
You must begin your studies at the University of Sheffield in 2022. This scholarship cannot be deferred.
Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully meeting any condition(s) attached to your offer before the deadline provided by the Admissions Service.
Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully receiving a visa to study at the University in September 2022.
You must be a national of, or permanently domiciled, in one of the following countries or territories:

We are pleased to offer the International Undergraduate Scholarship 2022 to new international students starting their undergraduate studies at the University of Sheffield in September 2022.
Key information:
The scholarship is worth £2,000 per year for courses in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences and £2,500 per year for courses in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health, and Faculty of Science.
The scholarship is offered in each following academic year subject to sustained academic success, please see below for more details.
No additional scholarship application is required. If you meet the eligibility and award criteria below the scholarship will be applied as a tuition fee discount.
Eligibility and award criteria:
You must commence your studies of an undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield in September 2022. All undergraduate degree courses are included except for Medicine (A100/A101) and Dentistry (A200).
You must choose the University of Sheffield as your firm or insurance choice before 16:00 (UK time) on 17 June 2022.
The scholarship will be awarded automatically – no scholarship application is required in the first or any subsequent years.
Subject to meeting the eligibility and award criteria the scholarship will be guaranteed in the first year of study.
The scholarship is applicable to each subsequent academic year of study, subject to achieving 60% or above and achieving a minimum of 120 credits in the previous academic year. The scholarship is not applicable to any compulsory or optional years in industry, work placements or year abroad.
You must enter a degree programme at the University of Sheffield in year 1. If you are entering in year 2, you would be eligible for this scholarship, providing you are not receiving a scholarship/award as part of a collaborative programme with your home institution.
The scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any of the following scholarships. In the event that you are selected for any of the below scholarships the most valuable award will take precedence:

The scholarship can be awarded in-conjunction with any available scholarships from the Department or Faculty you will be studying in, subject to not becoming a sponsored student*. Please use the funding calculator to find out if any scholarships are available from your Department/Faculty.
The scholarship cannot be awarded in-conjunction with any funding (full or partial) from an external sponsor**, excluding a loan, which has to be paid back in full.
The scholarship will take the form of a tuition fee reduction only.
You must be self-funded and classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
You must not be a sponsored student*.
The scholarships are for full-time and part-time students only. Students studying online or via distance learning are not eligible for a scholarship.
Part-time students will receive the equivalent value of the scholarship split pro-rata over the duration of a single full-time academic year.
This scholarship is not available to students on the BA Business Management Joint Programme with SBC (course code MGTU36).
For scholarship purposes all MArch programmes are considered as postgraduate taught programmes and are not eligible for this or any undergraduate scholarships.
This scholarship cannot be deferred to a future year of entry. If you decide to defer entry to another year you forfeit this award.
We are pleased to offer the International Postgraduate Scholarship 2022 to international students joining the University from selected regions to study a taught masters programme in September 2022.
The scholarship is worth £2,000 for courses in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences and £2,500 for courses in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health, and Faculty of Science.
No additional scholarship application is required, if you meet the eligibility and award criteria below the scholarship will be applied as a tuition fee discount.
You must accept your offer from the University of Sheffield before 16:00 (UK time) on 17 June 2022 to receive this award.

Your taught masters programme must be scheduled to commence at the University of Sheffield in September 2022.
You must accept your offer for your course before 16:00 (UK time) on 17 June 2022 to receive this award.
Subject to meeting the eligibility and award criteria the International Postgraduate Taught Sheffield Scholarship 2022 will be awarded automatically – no application is required.
The scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any of the following scholarships:

In the event that you are selected for any of the above scholarships the most valuable award will take precedence.
The scholarship can be awarded in conjunction with any available scholarships from the Department or Faculty you will be studying in, subject to not becoming a sponsored student*. Please use the funding calculator to find out if any scholarships are available from your Department/Faculty.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) courses are ineligible for the International Postgraduate Taught Scholarship 2022.
The scholarships will take the form of a tuition fee reduction only.
You must be self-funded and classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
You must study a course in full at the University of Sheffield. Masters programmes split between the University of Sheffield and a partner institution are not eligible for a scholarship.
All Crossways courses and Erasmus Mundus courses are ineligible for an automatic scholarship.
The scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any funding (full or partial) from an external sponsor**, excluding a loan, which has to be paid back in full.
The scholarship is for full-time and part-time students only. Students studying online or via distance learning are not eligible for the scholarship
Part-time students will receive the full-time equivalent of the scholarship split pro-rata over the duration of the Masters course, subject to all eligibility and award criteria.
These scholarships are not applicable to any postgraduate courses where the higher clinical fee is applicable, this includes, but is not exclusive to the following courses:
DClinDent Orthodontics
MClinDent in Orthodontics
DClinDent Endodontics
MClinDent in Paediatric Dentistry
DClinDent Periodontics
MMedSci in Diagnostic Oral Pathology
DClinDent Prosthodontics
If you are studying a 2-year Masters programme the scholarship will be available in the second year of your studies subject to successful completion of year 1.
The scholarship is not applicable to any years in industry or study abroad years that are compulsory or optional elements of your course.
This scholarship cannot be deferred to a future year of entry. If you decide to defer entry to another year you forfeit this award.
For scholarship purposes all MArch programmes are considered as postgraduate taught programmes so are eligible for this scholarship.
