Scholarships at Universidad de St Andrews

This exciting scholarship opportunity is open to citizens of Canada, China, Japan, Pakistan, India and the USA, and is aimed at encouraging bright, talented and hardworking individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. The scheme awards students who aspire to become influential leaders in their future careers, have wide ranging interests outside their studies and have a desire to broaden their personal and academic experience in Scotland.

Up to 50 awards are available across Scotland, each worth £8,000 towards tuition fees for full time postgraduate Masters programmes in a wide range of subject areas.

Please note that all other postgraduate programmes, including the Graduate Diploma, are not eligible courses for this scholarship.

An annual award of £2,000 partial fee waiver will be made to up to two recipients of a Kinnessburn scholarship. The prize of £2,000 is deducted from the undergraduate degree tuition fee for each year of undergraduate study at the University of St Andrews.   

The Kinnessburn scholarship award is based on the following:

• A two-minute video task that will be used to shortlist 4 candidates for review by a panel.

• Kinnessburn scholars will have an Ambassador role for IE whilst they are a UG student at the University of St Andrews and in receipt of the Kinnessburn scholarship funding. This role will require up to 10 hours per semester, and ambassadorial tasks may include:

• Helping with conversion and orientation activities for foundation offer-holders and entrants. This may involve: sending emails in response to offer-holder queries, participating in webinars to share student experience, attending or supporting in-person orientation events, recording videos about being a student in St Andrews.

• An invitation to online recruitment events

• An in-person event in Kinnessburn early each semester (January and September) to connect newly-started students with alumni

• Focus group work on marketing and conversion ideas.

• Exit interviews with IE staff to reflect on impact of foundation on UG experience when they graduate from their degree programme.

Additional criteria

To be eligible to apply for the Kinnessburn scholarship, you must:

• Be currently enrolled on a foundation programme at the University of St Andrews. This includes all International Foundation Programmes (IFP), the International Year One (IYO) Science, and the International Pathway to Medicine (IPM) programmes. IPM students can only apply in their final year of the IPM.

• Be able to provide evidence that you meet the required academic criteria:

  • An overall grade 16 or higher for programmes at SCQF level 6: Jan/Sep IFP Business, Jan/Sep IFP Social Sciences & Humanities, Jan IFP Science. January applicants will not have a final grade when then apply but they must be achieving 16 overall.

  • An overall grade of 15 or higher for programmes at SCQF level 7: IYO Science, IFP Medicine, Jan/Sep IPM (IPM students can only apply in their final year of IPM).

  • Both awards could be made to applicants from the same group. We would pick the two strongest applicants overall (based on videos rather than their grades)

• Have submitted a completed scholarship application in Fund (in your MySaint portal) and a submitted task-response video by email by 30 June 2022.

• Be legally allowed to study in the United Kingdom (i.e. not restricted from entering the UK or from applying for a study visa).

• Be moving onto an undergraduate degree programme at the University of St Andrews in the next academic cycle.

• Be willing to be an Ambassador for IE and the foundation programmes whilst in receipt of Kinnessburn funding.

Three awards are available for students from Pakistan, covering all tuition costs for the MSc TESOL with a Specialism in Technology for Teaching distance learning at the University of St Andrews.
