Scholarships at Brunel University London

The College of Engineering, Design & Physical Sciences (CEDPS) Academic Excellence Scholarship is a cash award available to full-time students commencing specified undergraduate courses in the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences.

Award details

Value: £2,000 cash each year for a maximum of three years for a full-time course and for a maximum of three years for a sandwich course. The scholarship will only be paid once for each eligible level of study, subject to normal progression criteria having been met (additional payments will not be made during a repeating year, regardless of the reason for repetition). This scholarship is not payable in the placement year of a sandwich course or the Masters year of an integrated Masters degree programme.

Scholarship holders may be requested to represent Brunel at various promotional activities throughout their time at the University. Participation is not mandatory and scholarship holders may be contacted with invitations to participate in activities such as surveys, focus groups and interviews, in order to evaluate the University’s financial support package. Scholarship holders will be contacted as and when participation is required. If a student chooses not to participate, their scholarship award will not be affected.

Data pertaining to scholarship holders such as: progression rates, degree attainment, degree completion, and graduate outcomes may also be analysed in order to understand the effectiveness of bursaries and scholarships. This data may also be linked to other data already held by the University for the purpose of better understanding the impact of bursaries and scholarships on under-represented groups. 

Eligibility

Scholarships will be awarded to all those applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must hold an offer of a place on a full time Undergraduate course within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences (including placement routes and undergraduate integrated Masters programmes but excluding Integrated Foundation courses), a list of eligible courses can be found in appendix 1.

• This includes offers made through UCAS Clearing. Clearing applicants must ensure that they inform the Student Loans Company (SLC) at the earliest opportunity that they are attending Brunel University of London. The SLC must notify Brunel University of London by 4^th October 2025. Failure to do this will result in the applicant not being considered for the award.

• Offer must be for FHEQ Level 4 (Year 1) of the course.

• Offer must be ‘Unconditional Firm’ (UF) by the date the Scholarship Allocation Panel make their awards (i.e. applicant must have met all offer conditions and firmly accepted the place).

• Must commence the course in the upcoming academic year (applicants for deferred entry will be considered for a scholarship in the year they start their course and not in the year of their course application).

• Must achieve or exceed one of the following qualifications and grades*:

• • 3 A Levels with grades AAB or above

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with 33 points or above

  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma with grades D*D*D* or above

  • 3 Scottish Advanced Highers with grades AAB or above

  • Higher Irish Leaving Certificate from 5 subjects with grades H2, H2, H2, H3, H3 (or AAABB from the pre-2017 grading system) or above

*(UCAS tariff equivalencies or combinations of qualifications are not acceptable)

Those not eligible for this Scholarship

• Applicants entering a course in the Foundation year, FHEQ Level 5 (Year 2) or FHEQ Level 6 (Year 3).

• Applicants entering a course with Brunel Pathway College (BPC), or who are progressing to a Brunel course from a BPC course.

• Applicants who will not commence their course in the upcoming academic year - applicants holding offers for deferred entry will be considered for a scholarship in the year they start their course and not in the year of their course application.

Brunel University of London and the Mexican Fund for Human Resources Development (FIDERH) have partnered to provide full time students on Postgraduate taught and Postgraduate research courses with a 15% discount on tuition fee's.

The Scholarship is for Mexican students in receipt of a loan or financial support from FIDERH, a trust managed by the Central Bank of Mexico.

The Scholarship cannot be combined with any other University scholarship, bursary, discount, or award. If an applicant is eligible for more than one scholarship or discount, they will be awarded the one which is most financially beneficial across the full course duration.

Our Brunel Graduate Discount offers a 15% fee reduction for all Brunel alumni across our postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses.
Students who are alumni of Brunel University of London will automatically qualify for our Graduate Discount when they progress to study a postgraduate course.

Award details

The Brunel Graduate Discount is available for self-funding applicants who have previously studied at Brunel University of London and Graduated (achieved their intended award), who register for any subsequent degree programme.

Value: 15% discount on the net tuition fee (i.e. the tuition fee after the application of any scholarship or bursary fee waivers) for every year of study.

How many: Unlimited. The Graduate Discount is awarded to all those  that meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

The discount will be awarded to those applicants who are:

• Registering on a further undergraduate programme, postgraduate taught programme, a doctoral or postgraduate research programme, online programme delivered by a third party, the PGCE programme and the Graduate Diploma in Law (CPE).

• Considered 'self-funded' - eligible students, who are attending University on a self-funding basis and are responsible for paying their own tuition fees in full. Students, who are funding their studies with an SLC Postgraduate Master’s Loan or a scholarship/bursary fee waiver are considered self-funding for the purpose of this discount. 

Those not eligible for this discount:

• Applicants NOT classed as 'self-funded' - students whose tuition fees are paid by a third party, either partially or in full, are not usually eligible for the graduate discount.

• Applicants who have been awarded one of the following awards:

• The Postgraduate International Bursary;

• The Vice Chancellor's Excellence Award.

All students who are responsible for paying their own course fees in full, and who pay the full amount of fees due at or before their scheduled date of registration, may receive a early payment discount of 2% on the net course fee i.e after the application of any other discounts to which they may be entitled.

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Brunel University of London is offering three scholarships to students from China, Nigeria and Viet Nam applying for eligible postgraduate courses for the 2026/27 academic year.

The scholarship programme offers financial support to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study at Brunel.

Please note that applicants should be passport holders of China, Nigeria and Viet Nam.

How much is it worth

Each GREAT – Brunel University of London Scholarship - 2026 is worth £12,000 towards tuition fees.

The Postgraduate Academic Excellence scholarship is available for students on Postgraduate Taught (PGT) courses at Brunel University of London who are self-funding their studies, paying Home fees and have obtained a First-Class undergraduate degree;

• from a UK University, either in the UK or at an overseas campus or

• obtained the equivalent of a UK First Class degree from an EU institution

Additionally, graduates of Brunel University of London will receive the Graduate Discount of 15% off the final tuition fee amount due (after any the scholarship award has been applied). On the basis that they register on a taught postgraduate programme on a fully self-funding basis. 

Value: A discount of 15% off the tuition fees, per year.

Eligibility

The Scholarship will be awarded to all full time, part time, distance learning and online learning students who meet all the following criteria:

• Have an unconditional offer to study a taught Master’s programme at Brunel University of London, this includes the MBA and Mres programmes.

• Is a Home fee paying student holding an offer on a course starting in 2025/26, (applicants classed as Overseas for fee purposes are not eligible).

• Have achieved a First Class honours degree from a UK University or an EU University:

  • For a UK degree: the award must be from a UK University, the student does not have to have attended a UK based campus.

  • An honours degree awarded with distinction is acceptable where no first class classification exists.

  • Holding a higher degree, without having achieved a First Class classification at undergraduate level does not qualify for receipt of this award.

  • For an EU equivalent the award must be from a recognised EU institution and be the equivalent of a First-class honours degree, as listed in appendix 1.

• Are attending the University on a self-funding basis and are responsible for paying their own tuition fees in full. Students, who are funding their studies with a SLC Postgraduate Master’s Loan or a scholarship/bursary fee waiver are considered self-funding for the purpose of this Scholarship. 

Those not eligible for this scholarship:

• Applicants classed as Overseas for fee purposes.

• Applicants on all associate courses or modules.

• Applicants undertaking short courses.

• All PGCert, PGDip and PGCE courses – with the exception of the PGCE Secondary Education with PE and PGCE Primary (which are not funded by the Governments Teacher Training bursaries).

• Applicants on Postgraduate Research courses.

• Sponsored applicants - Applicants who are being funded either in full or partially, this includes:

  • Applicants whose fees are being paid by their employer;

  • Applicants who are sponsored by their Government or any other organisation or external body;

  • Students in receipt of a Brunel studentship;

  • Recipients of an NHS Bursary;

  • Recipients of bursaries provided by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL); This discount will apply to courses that are not eligible for a bursary, namely the PGCE in Primary Education and the PGCE in Secondary Education with PE only;

  • Applicants on the PGCE in Primary Education.

• Online learning applicants awarded a regional discount.

• Students undertaking a dissertation only module (march start).

• Students who are completing any Staged Masters Programmes (PG Cert, PG Dip and Masters).

• Students who complete MSc dissertation only programmes.

The International Bursary offers a £4,000 fee reduction for self-funded international students across our postgraduate taught (PGT) courses starting in January 2026, September 2026 or January 2027.

This award is designed to support applicants with a 2:2 or equivalent internationally recognised undergraduate qualification, empowering you to advance your education at Brunel University of London. 

Who is eligible?

To be considered you need to:

• Achieve one of the following qualifications: a 2:2 or equivalent internationally recognised undergraduate qualification, a China Dazhuan qualification (75 and 3 years work experience) or a UK 3^rd class undergraduate degree will be considered if held with a verified Masters qualification.  

• Have an offer to study one of our postgraduate taught or MRes courses starting in January 2026, September 2026 or January 2027.

• Pay your £5,000 course deposit by the stated deadlines.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must have a 2:2 or equivalent internationally recognised undergraduate qualification, or a China Dazhuan qualification (75 and 3 years experience).

• Applicants with a UK 3^rd class degree will be considered if held with a verified Masters qualification and will be considered on a case by case basis.

• Must be classed as an Overseas fee-paying student based on the UK government regulations and be self-funded (not sponsored). Applicants who are unsure of their fee status should note Brunel uses the information they have provided in their application form to assess fee status against regulations set by the UK government.

• Must have an offer to study on a full-time postgraduate taught or MRes programme starting in January 2026 of the 2025/26 academic year.

• Applicants must pay their £5,000 tuition fee deposit by the advisory deadline stated above to secure the fee reduction.

• All applicants must meet all conditions of their offer by the time they are due to register at Brunel.

• Applicants who defer their entry from September to January of the same academic year will retain the award.

Those not eligible for this Bursary

• Applicants NOT classed as Overseas for fee purposes, based on the UK government regulations or those with an unresolved fee status.

• Applicants who are being sponsored by a Government or external body. Sponsored students are not eligible and must make themselves known to the Scholarship Team if they have been awarded a scholarship.

• The award is not available to Postgraduate Research applicants (i.e. PhD, MPhil),  or applicants undertaking Pg Cert or PG Dip courses.

• The award is not available for Brunel Medical School courses, namely MSc Physician Associate.

• Applicants who will NOT commence their course in January 2026 (2025/26 academic year), and defer to 2026/27.

• Applicants entering a course with Brunel Pathway College (BPC) or who are progressing to a Brunel course from an BPC course.

• Applicants holding an offer to study by Distance Learning.

• Applicants holding offers to study on a part-time programme.

• Applicants holding offers to study on an online learning programme.

Who can apply for a Brunel University Sport Scholarship?

Anyone can apply for an award as long as they have met the academic requirements for a course and subsequently been given a conditional or unconditional place at Brunel University London.

As main criteria, all applicants must be able to demonstrate sporting achievement at junior international level or equivalent in one of the priority sports listed below and/or evidence a top 10 age ranking within their chosen sport.

Please note that competition for scholarships can be very high and you must be able to show evidence of your sporting achievements and supporting information from your National Governing Body Performance Director/National Coach. Meeting these criteria is not a guarantee for a Scholarship award.

What we offer for 2026/27

Our Sport Scholarship Programme award will contain exclusive benefits that focus on access to great training facilities as well as support facilities all available on campus. We have a wide range of talented students at Brunel University London, therefore the programme is designed to benefit those students from a world-class performance level competing at an international level through to English Schools Champions.

We offer the following Sport Scholarship tiers for team sports:

• Gold Sport Scholarship Award - participating at major international competitions at a Senior level

• Silver Sport Scholarship Award - participating at junior international competitions or equivalent

• Bronze Bursary Award - participating at a national level/national ranking competition

Priority Sports

Students that compete in one of the University's priority sports, listed below, will be given priority for funding; however all other sports will be considered.

Our priority/performance sports are Athletics, Netball, Rugby, Basketball & Futsal.

Other sports include Badminton, Canoeing/Rowing, Golf, Hockey, Judo, Olympic Weightlifting, Swimming, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis and Women’s Football.

Individuals Sports Scholarship Awards

For those that compete in individual sport, such as Athletics, you will receive an initial Sports Scholarship award of £200. There will be financial rewards linked to performances at the BUCS Championships throughout the year. Kindly note that there will be no other cash awards available through the course of the academic year – the bulk of your scholarship is attached to successful performances at the BUCS championships as detailed below.

Our Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Award offers 25 fee waivers worth 25% of the undergraduate tuition fee, per year for self-funded international students enrolling in our undergraduate courses starting September 2026.

• Pay your £5,000 course deposit by 30^th August 2026.

• Achieve a minimum of 3 A Levels with grades ABB and above or equivalent internationally recognised qualification. While strong academic performance (such as achieving ABB at A Level or an equivalent qualification) may be taken into consideration, it is not a strict requirement. The selection panel will review each application holistically, taking into account your potential, personal achievements, and how well you align with our values.

How many: 25

Value: A tuition fee waiver of 25% will be applied to each year of study for a maximum of three years for a full-time course and for four years for integrated foundation programmes and integrated master’s programmes. Payment will not be made in the placement year of any course.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must have an offer to study on a full-time undergraduate programme starting in September 2026 of the 2026/27 academic year.

• Applicants must achieve a minimum of 3 A Levels with grades ABB and above or equivalent internationally recognised undergraduate qualification. While strong academic performance (such as achieving ABB at A Level or an equivalent qualification) may be taken into consideration, it is not a strict requirement.
