This information is for continuing Northumbria students and Alumni applying to study a Postgraduate degree in the academic year 2025/26 and applies to Full and Part-Time students (including the Post Graduate Certificate in Education) studying at our Newcastle and London campuses or via Distance Learning.
If you have graduated or are expected to graduate this year with a Full Undergraduate Degree, Masters or Postgraduate Research qualification from Northumbria University (or Newcastle Polytechnic), you will automatically receive a 20% tuition fee discount (pro-rata if your course is longer than one year) on most* Masters and Postgraduate Research courses.
Eligible students also include those who have previously studied at Northumbria in the UK as a Study Abroad or Exchange student, or those who have completed a Northumbria degree outside the UK via a Transnational Education (TNE) partnership, subject to successfully graduating at the level mentioned above.

To be eligible for the Alumni Discount, you must:
Be a UK or International applicant who has achieved a full first degree* from Northumbria University or Newcastle Polytechnic. (*as defined by the levels published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency - 'HESA').
Provide proof of your previous qualification from Northumbria University or Newcastle Polytechnic.
Be applying to study on a Full Masters or Postgraduate Research course in September 2025 or January 2026.
Be a self-funded student ie; not in receipt of any sponsorship.
Important Information
Students who are awarded any other Masters or Postgraduate Research scholarship will not be eligible for Alumni Discount unless otherwise stated. This includes (but is not exclusive to) students awarded the Northumbria Postgraduate Scholarship.
The Alumni Discount applies to Full and Part-Time courses either in Newcastle Upon Tyne or through Distance Learning, commencing in the academic year 25/26.
Funding is awarded as a fee waiver and is not a cash sum.
Students will receive a 20% discount from the course fee, this will be pro-rata if the course is longer than one year.
Students are still able to apply, and may be eligible for the Government Loan and other sources of finance to support Masters study.
Students who are progressing from a continuing professional qualification gained at Northumbria University, or who have completed a single module of study, but do not hold an Undergraduate degree from Northumbria, will not be entitled to Alumni Discount.
The Alumni discount scheme is not available to students undertaking part two of the MArch qualification.
The Alumni discount scheme is not available to those undertaking a Degree Apprenticeship programme.
The Alumni discount scheme is not available to students undertaking courses funded by the NHS.
Students on NHS courses who are self-funded will be eligible for Alumni Discount. This includes students who are paying fees through Student Finance England.
The Alumni discount scheme is not available to students who are studying on an integrated Masters course.
The Alumni Discount applies to the tuition fee only, and not to exam, writing-up, or professional registration fees.
If you defer your place, the discount scheme offer will be withdrawn.
The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal.

Northumbria University has announced the continuation of the Sanctuary Scholarship, for those seeking asylum in the UK.
This opportunity will award three outstanding students with a £1,000 per year contribution towards studies, as well as a full 100% fee waiver for a wide range of eligible Full-Time Undergraduate courses, beginning in September 2024.
Applications will close at 16:00 on Friday 26 April 2024.
Terms and Conditions
To be eligible for the Sanctuary Scholarship, you must:
Be currently seeking asylum in the UK, or you must be a dependant, spouse or civil partner* of someone currently seeking asylum in the UK
Be able to provide evidence of your current immigration status
Have received a conditional or unconditional offer on a Full-Time Undergraduate course at Northumbria University, starting in September 2024
Be starting at level four (i.e. the first year of a Full-Time Undergraduate degree)
Meet all the conditions of your course, including English Language competency requirements
Be living in the North East of England (Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland and North Cumbria) prior to the commencement of study and be able to provide an address
Be unable to access UK student finance (tuition fee loans and/or maintenance loans) by virtue of your immigration status
* Your spouse or civil partner must have been your spouse or civil partner on the date that your asylum application was made. Dependent children or step-children must have been aged 18 or under on the date that your asylum application was made.
Important Information
Students selected for the Sanctuary Scholarship will not be eligible for any other Northumbria scholarship or discount during this course of study
The Sanctuary Scholarship is awarded as a 100% tuition fee waiver and a cash sum of £1,000
The cash award will be paid as: 25% in November 2024, 25% in February 2025, and 50% in May 2025 (and at the same time in subsequent academic years) Northumbria University will make a payments through the BACs system and therefore successful applicants will need to provide bank details for payment
Students will receive a 100% tuition fee discount on Full-Time eligible courses studied at Newcastle City Campus and Coach Lane Campus only
Scholarships will be awarded based on the scholarship application form, relevant documentation, and interview - course application forms will not be considered
The Sanctuary Scholarship will be provided for a maximum of three years while the applicant remains eligible and continues to make satisfactory progress on the course of study
If you are successful in being awarded a Sanctuary Scholarship, you must promptly inform Northumbria University if your immigration status changes. This may result in the Sanctuary Scholarship being withdrawn for the next academic year, should access to UK student finance be granted
