Scholarships at UWE Bristol

The Chevening Scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. Established in 1983, the Chevening programme has developed into a prestigious international scheme.

Scholars come from 118 countries worldwide. There are over 42,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network. Scholars are personally selected by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world, sometimes in partnership with sponsoring organisations.

Eligibility

Applicants for Chevening Scholarships must:

• be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

• return to their country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after their award has ended.

• have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time they submit their application (this is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK).

• have at least two years of work experience.

This scholarship is available to an outstanding applicant who can evidence a correlation between studying their selected MSc course and improving the environmental, health, wellbeing or security of their home country.

Eligible applicants must

• be applying from a country that recently has been subject to a significant adverse environmental, health or security impact, where its alleviation relates to the subject area of the selected MSc programme

• hold an unconditional offer or a conditional offer where IELTS or equivalent English language is the only condition

• be a new student to UWE Bristol with no previous UK study

• be classed as overseas for fees purposes

• not be a sponsored student or in receipt of another scholarship/award

• provide official transcripts at the time of application.

Flywire, our official payment partner, is offering scholarships worth the equivalent of $5,000 USD.

The scholarships will be awarded through Flywire’s Charitable Foundation, which is designed to improve individuals’ access to quality education, healthcare and help students and their families better manage costs associated with their education.

The scholarship themes are social justice, global health and global citizenship – scholarships will be awarded to students with academic pursuits in these related areas.

Eligibility

The scholarships are open to current and new international and EU students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in all subject areas.

You can only apply to one of the three themes.

To be eligible, you must not be:

• an existing or former Flywire employee or officer

• related to a former or existing Flywire employee or officer

• connected to companies that Flywire conducts business with.

The UWE Global Success Scholarship is a three-year award for international undergraduate students at UWE Bristol.

The scholarship offers a £3,000 tuition fee discount each year, helping students develop academically, professionally and personally, while actively contributing to the UWE Bristol community. 

• £3,000 tuition fee reduction per year.

• Total scholarship value: up to £9,000 over three years.

Eligibility

To apply for the UWE Bristol Global Success Scholarship you must:

• Be an international-fee-paying student.

• Hold an offer to study a full-time undergraduate degree at UWE Bristol (some course exclusions apply)

• Meet the academic and English language requirements of your chosen programme

• Not be a sponsored student or receiving another UWE Bristol tuition fee discount.

Continuing eligibility (years 2 and 3)

The £3,000 discount in years 2 and 3 is subject to you fulfilling specific engagement activities. These include participation in student support, marketing and recruitment initiatives, helping future students learn more about life at UWE Bristol.

Activity will be monitored throughout your study. If you don't meet the minimum engagement requirements, your award will decrease to £1,000 in continuing years.

If you are a high performing athlete, UWE Bristol offers exceptional opportunities to pursue your sporting ambitions with our International Sport Scholarships.

Recipients of this scholarship will be required to undertake ambassadorial activity for the University throughout the duration of their course.

UWE Bristol offer up to £4,000 (first year only) for students joining us on undergraduate courses and postgraduate taught courses.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must be an international fee payer.

A number of different areas will be considered when offering scholarships including but not exclusive to:

• course choice

• personal statement

• academic references

• academic performance

• interviews

• skills and experience

• domicile.

These scholarships are awarded entirely at the University's discretion.

UWE Bristol offers a number of scholarships to students progressing from UWE Bristol’s International College to UWE Bristol. These include the following:

Global Buddy Scholarship

Four Global Buddy Scholarships are available, which offer a 25% tuition fee discount for a maximum of three years.

In order to be eligible students must:

• Be an international fee payer

• Achieve a minimum of 70% attainment

• Achieve a minimum of 90% attendance

To apply for the Global Buddy scholarship eligible students will need to complete an application form and essay. The application form will be sent directly to any eligible students. 

Eligible applicants must:

• pass both the academic and English language progression requirements of their course.

• be a new student to UWE Bristol with no previous UK study.

• be classed as overseas for fees purposes.

• provide official transcripts at the time of application.
