Scholarships at Nottingham Trent University

The GREAT Scholarship is a partnership launched by the British Council together with 71 UK universities. 

What you could get

We offer financial support of £10,000 towards course tuition fees.

Who can apply and how

• The programme supports students pursuing one-year postgraduate study from each of the following countries: Egypt, Ghana, Italy, Kenya and Pakistan.
• Beginning studies at NTU for the first time in either September 2025 or January 2026.

• Canada Law High Achievers Award - £3,000

• China Star Scholarship - £3,000 for the first year of study.

Postgraduate

• Bangladesh High Achievers Award - £3,000

• India Prestigious University Award - Up to £4,000

• Sri Lanka High Achievers Award - £3,000

• Sub-Saharan Africa High Achievers Award - £3,000

• Thailand High Achievers Award - £4,000

Who can apply and how

Must have a permanent residence in Sri Lanka, Taiwan, USA, Ghana, Vietnam, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Uganda, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Latin America and Caribbean, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Serbia, Turkey, Korea, Pakistan, Canada, China, Bangladesh and India.

Must pay for your own tuition. International students with funding from an employer, government, or organisation won’t be considered for this award.

Enrolling in a full-time taught postgraduate or undergraduate course.

Merit and International scholarships are awarded to international students who can demonstrate they will positively impact the NTU community.

What you could get

Merit Scholarship - £3,000 per year

International Scholarship - £2,000 per year

Sibling Loyalty Reward - in form of 20% discount on tuition fees for the first year only.

Who can apply and how

Must pay for your own tuition. International students with funding from an employer, government, or organisation won’t be considered for this award.

Have an offer on an eligible full-time taught postgraduate or undergraduate course. 

Ineligible courses: LLM BTC, LLM LPC (full-time, part-time, distance learning), LLM (distance learning), MSc Human Resource Management (part-time), MA Social Work, MA Advanced Social Work Practice, MSc Biomedical Science (flexible learning), SQE courses, all PGCE courses.

Sibling Loyalty Reward: Siblings must share at least one parent to qualify. The sibling must be in their first year at NTU.

Our NTU Excellence Scholarships are competitive and are awarded to applicants who demonstrate strong academic and extra-curricular achievement.

What you could get

You can get either 25% or 50% off your first-year tuition fees. 

Undergraduate students will also get £3,000 for each subsequent year of the course.

Who can apply and how

Enrolling in a full-time taught postgraduate or undergraduate course.

Our International Scholarships are worth up to £3,000 and are awarded competitively to students who show a strong commitment to their studies.

To be eligible for an NTU International Scholarship award, you must:

• Have an offer of a place on an eligible course at Nottingham Trent University, including Confetti courses.

• Be classed as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes (‘international student’). 

• Be due to enrol on the first year of a new course of study (or year 2 or 3 of an undergraduate course in the case of advanced entry) in September 2024 or January 2025. International students enrolled before January 2025 and due to progress onto the second, third or fourth year of their course of study in January 2025 or September 2025, or repeating the first year of study, are not eligible to apply.

Terms and Conditions for International Scholarships

• Nottingham Trent International College (NTIC) progression students are not eligible to apply for an NTU International Scholarship award.

• International students who receive sponsorship (your tuition fees are being paid by an employer, government, or funding body in full or in part) are not eligible to apply for an International Scholarship.

• If you are studying at an institution that has a partnership agreement with NTU you are eligible for either an NTU International Scholarship award (if your scholarship application is successful) or the Partner Progression Discount (the higher amount would be deducted from your tuition fees).

• If you are awarded a Scholarship by an external body, you can only be awarded an NTU International Scholarship award if the total combined amount of both awards is not higher than 50% of your first year’s tuition fees. Please check the Terms and Conditions of the external award to make sure any award from NTU would not impact your external award.

• Applicants may only apply for an NTU International Scholarship award once per academic year per offer of a place on a qualifying course.

• Applications received after 16:00 GMT (4 pm) on each deadline will automatically be considered for the next available deadline. For example, application forms submitted after the first deadline and before the second deadline, will be considered for the second deadline.

• Applications received after the final deadline will not be considered.

• If you are awarded any other scholarship, bursary and / or tuition fee reduction from NTU you will only be eligible for the higher award (except for candidates who are awarded a Sport Scholarship or if you are eligible for the Alumni discount and the combined awards are not higher than 50% of your first year’s tuition fees).

• If you receive an award for each year of study, the award will be deducted from your tuition fee at the start of each year. You must successfully complete each year of the course to continue to receive this. Scholarships are not applied when a placement year is undertaken but will resume for your final year of study.

• NTU Scholarship awards are not transferable and will not be awarded if you choose to transfer to a different course of study at NTU or if you defer your entry to the following academic year.

• Applicants will be informed whether they have (or have not) been awarded an NTU International Scholarship award (and of the value of the scholarship award if they have been awarded) within five weeks of the application deadline.

• The scholarship will be applied to your tuition fee when you accept your scholarship offer, accept and meet the conditions of your course offer and you are eligible to enrol on your course.

• Scholarships are competitive and selection is based on the information provided on the scholarship application form. It is particularly important that you give your scholarship statement careful thought and preparation, and that you refer to the criteria provided.

• If applying for the High Achievers Award, you must be able to provide a graded transcript in order to evidence that you meet the criteria of the High Achievers award.

• If you fail to complete your course and choose to retake the course or undertake another eligible course, any scholarship you were originally awarded will not be applicable.

• If you fail to complete your course and the scholarship was not applied (i.e., you did not pay the tuition fees, or the tuition fees were reimbursed) and you choose to retake the course or undertake another eligible course you may re-apply for a scholarship provided you still meet the eligibility criteria. Consideration of any new scholarship application will be in accordance with the stated criteria and there is no guarantee that the application will be successful.

• If you withdraw from your course while owing a proportion of your tuition fees to NTU, application of the scholarship shall be at the discretion of NTU, and the scholarship may be withdrawn.

What you could get

Country and School Scholarships:

Undergraduate

• Sri Lanka Scholarship - £4,000 for each year of study, excluding any placement years

• Taiwan Scholarship - £5,000 for the first year of study

• Taiwan STEM Scholarship - 50% of tuition fee for the first year of study

• USA Excellence Scholarship - 25% or 50% of tuition fee, plus £3,000 for each subsequent year of your course excluding any placement years

Postgraduate/Masters

• Ghana Law School Scholarship - 50% of tuition fee

• LLM Scholarships (Vietnam, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa) - 50% of tuition fee

• Makerere Uganda Scholarship - 100% of tuition fee

• Postgraduate Scholarships for Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Latin America and Caribbean, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Serbia, Turkey - £4,000

• Postgraduate Scholarship for Korea, Pakistan, Vietnam. Taiwan - £5,000

• Taiwan STEM Scholarship - 50% of tuition fee

• Women in Computer Science - 50% of tuition fee

NTU offers a number of scholarship awards each year to high-performing student athletes from a range of different sports for undergraduate and postgraduate study. Each award is tailored to the needs of the athlete to ensure that everything is put in place to help them to achieve both academic and sporting success while at NTU.

Eligibility

NTU sport scholarships are awarded on a case by case basis, priority is given to individuals whose sport features within the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) programme.

To qualify for a sport scholarship, you must:

• Be currently enrolled on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course at NTU, or in the process of applying to become an NTU student for the next academic year

• Compete at a regional, national or international standard in your sport or show evidence of significant future sporting potential.

Advice for applicants

When applying for a sport scholarship at NTU please be aware of the following:

• Experience level is not a guarantee of a successful application

• Sport scholars must compete for NTU in all competitions and attend all club training sessions

• If you are unsuccessful in your application the first time around you can apply again in the succeeding academic years

• A sport scholarship is valid for one academic year only; sport scholars must reapply if they wish to continue to receive support
