Sports Scholarships are tailored to the needs of the individual athlete but will include a cash sum for sporting expenses up to £3,000 per year for exceptional athletes. A full package of support services and coaching equating to a cash equivalent of upwards of £3,500 is also provided as part of each award.
The Sports Scholarship Scheme is funded centrally by the University Performance Programme. However, University alumni alongside several key performance partners, both local and national sponsors, also show great generosity by financing several individual scholarships.
Please note that Sports Scholarships can only be awarded to those students who have gained the offer of a place or normal admission to a course based on their academic qualifications to the University of Exeter.

About the award
The Sanctuary Scholarship scheme enables individuals seeking asylum and refugees who are not able access student finance to study at the University of Exeter.

As well as meeting the academic requirements for your chosen programme of study you will also need to demonstrate that:
You have submitted a claim for asylum within the UK and are awaiting a response (this includes submission of a fresh claim) or
You have Limited Leave to Remain (formerly Discretionary Leave to Remain) in the UK and are not eligible for funding via Student Finance England or
You have been awarded ‘Humanitarian Protection’ or Refugee status in the UK but are not eligible for funding via Student Finance England or
You have left care in the UK and are assessed as international for tuition fee purposes and are not eligible for funding via Student Finance England or
(For applicants to postgraduate research programmes only) You have been granted refugee status* by the UK Home Office or
You are the family member of someone with one of the immigration statuses listed above with ‘in line’ or ‘dependent’ status

The following programmes are not eligible for Sanctuary Scholarship funding:
BMBS Medicine – this is due to a cap imposed by the NHS on the number of home students we can recruit to the programme. Any change to the fee status of a student during their studies would put the University in breach of this cap
Any taught or research Masters programmes (eg MA, MSc, MPhil, MbyRes)
Value of Scholarship
Undergraduates – a full tuition fee waiver plus a grant for living costs of £9500 for each year of study.
Undergraduate students will also receive a £2000 Access to Exeter Bursary during each year of study
Doctorate Students (STEM disciplines) - a full tuition fee waiver plus an annual living cost grant of £17,668*. A research allowance of £5000 per year will also be paid. All funding will normally be for a maximum of 3.5 years.
Doctorate Students (HASS disciplines) -a full tuition fee waiver plus an annual living cost grant of £17,668*. A research allowance of £750 per year will also be paid. All funding will normally be for a maximum of 3 years.

The Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter is delighted to offer a number of scholarships of £1,500 per year for students commencing the MArabic (Master of Arabic & Islamic Studies), BA Middle East Studies or BA Arabic & Politics in the 2023/24 academic year.
This scholarship is available for all first year MArabic, BA Middle East Studies and BA Arabic & Politics students who register by 31st October 2023 at the very latest. The scholarship will continue to be awarded throughout years 2, 3 and 4 provided you remain successfully registered on your programme of study.
Students on combined honours modern language courses involving Arabic will also receive 50% (£750) of this award in years 1, 3 and 4 and the full amount (£1,500) in year 2 (spent in an Arabic-speaking country).
This scholarship will be awarded to eligibe candidates automatically following completion of the registration process by the end of Week 4 in Term 1.
We are pleased to offer graduating University of Exeter students completing their degree in Summer 2023 and progressing direct to a standalone taught Masters degree (eg MA; MSc; MRes; MFA, LLM) or research degree (eg MPhil/PhD) with us a scholarship towards the cost of their tuition fees.
These awards are worth 10% of the first year tuition fee for students enrolling on a postgraduate taught or research programme of study in 2023/24. Please note that the PGCE programme is not eligible for this award.
Entry requirements
Awards are available to all home and international University finalists graduating from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree awarded by the University of Exeter.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet the entry requirements for your chosen postgraduate programme and enrol on this programme with us in 2023/24.
