Oxford named best university in the world for fifth consecutive year

The University of Oxford has been named the best university in the world for the fifth consecutive year following the publication of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021.

Oxford saw off competition from Oxbridge rival the University of Cambridge, who finished sixth, with a total of 29 UK universities featuring in the top global top 200. Imperial College LondonUniversity College LondonLondon School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Edinburgh all finished in the top 30.

The vice-chancellor of Oxford University, Louise Richardson, said: "We are delighted to have consolidated our position at the top of the THE World University Rankings this year. The international standing of British Higher Education is a testament to generations of investment in education as well as to our extraordinarily talented staff and students."
