Overview

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is responsible for managing Britain’s contribution to the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP).

Awards are funded by the Department for International Development (for developing Commonwealth countries), and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Scottish Government (for developed Commonwealth countries), in conjunction with UK universities. The CSC also nominates UK citizens for scholarships to study in other Commonwealth countries under the CSFP.

The CSC makes available seven types of award:

• Scholarships for PhD research

• Scholarships for Masters study

• Shared Scholarships with UK universities in support of Masters programmes

• Academic Fellowships for staff serving in developing country universities

• Split-site Scholarships for PhD students to spend up to one year in the UK

• Professional Fellowships for mid-career professionals in developing countries

• Distance Learning Scholarships for developing country students to study UK Masters degree courses while living in their own countries

Overview

The Frank Pounder Bursary scheme is designed to support students pursuing the MSc in Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Newcastle University.  Its primary aim is to promote academic excellence and encourage students to pursue careers within the geospatial sector.

Eligibility Criteria

• The bursary is available to all students who are fully registered on the MSc in Geospatial Artificial Intelligence for the 2026/2027 academic year. 

• Each eligible student will receive an individual award of £2,000 

The bursary will be disbursed in January 2027, following confirmation that each eligible student: 

• has successfully registered as a full-time student on the Geospatial AI MSc programme; 

• is fully paid up to schedule on all university fees; 

• has actively engaged with their studies throughout Semester 1.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must: 

• be domiciled in India;

• must already have or expect the receive the equivalent of a first-class UK Honours degree. 

Applicants will be assessed according to evidence of academic ability, evidence of commitment to studies and quality of application; and must provide evidence of leadership and innovation in extracurricular activities, student organizations, sports, community involvement or professional activities.

• identify as female

• hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) for admission in September 2026 to the Full-time MBA programme

• have substantive managerial experience of 3 years or more

• hold the equivalent of a UK 2:1 honours degree (applicants who do not meet this requirement but can demonstrate relevant work experience above the minimum plus significant career progression may also be considered)

• perform well at interview across all competency areas

• hold an English language qualification of IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent with no subskill below 6.0 (if your first language is not English).

• completed the scholarship application form including submitting an essay of no more than 1,500 words in response to the question listed. Submissions need to be in English

• hold the equivalent of a UK 2:1 honours degree (applicants who do not meet this requirement but can demonstrate relevant work experience above the minimum plus significant career progression may also be considered)
