Scholarships at University of Leeds

If you are a graduate of the University of Leeds and are considering further study, you may be eligible for a 10% tuition fee discount.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible you must:

• Have studied an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Leeds, the SWJTU-Leeds Joint School or an affiliated University of Leeds college. This includes students who have completed the Leeds International Summer School or a study abroad programme at the University of Leeds.

• Register for an award leading to a postgraduate qualification.

• Be self-funding for at least part of the cost of your tuition fees. 

How much is it worth?

The University will pay 10% of the self-funded part of your tuition fees (fees paid by yourself, friend or family member, or a postgraduate loan from the UK government).

The alumni discount can be combined with other University of Leeds scholarships and awards.

Eligible courses

Most of our postgraduate qualifications including the Law LLB conversion course are eligible for the alumni discount, except for the following:

• BA, BSc, Masters, research degree or PhD when studied as an intercalating part of a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) or Bachelor of Dentistry (BChD)

• Jointly awarded degrees

• Programmes that are part of professional training (not including postgraduate certificate, diplomas or Masters degrees)

• Integrated undergraduate Masters degrees, such as MEng, MBiol

• Integrated PhDs

• PGCE courses.

Terms and conditions

• Students who have their fees paid in full by a sponsor (i.e. an employer, government, research council, charity or other third-party organisation) or the University of Leeds are not eligible for the discount.

• The following courses are not eligible as qualifying previous qualifications:

  • Language Centre pre-sessional courses

  • Courses that are part of professional training or continued professional development (CPD) that are not postgraduate certificates, diplomas or Masters qualifications

  • Occasional study courses

  • English language foundation courses.

• The discount is applied automatically for each year of study and will take the form of a tuition fee discount, and no monies will be paid directly to you. This will reduce the amount payable to the University. The remainder of the tuition fee is then payable according to our tuition fee policy.

• The fee discount is not applicable during any year(s) abroad or year(s) in industry.

• The alumni discount will not require repaying if you leave partway through your studies. It will be assessed pro-rata, to coincide with the procedure for calculating outstanding tuition fees.

• You can receive the alumni discount twice, for example if you register for a Masters degree followed by a research degree.

• The discount will not be applied during the overtime (writing-up) period for research degree students, for taught students who are re-sitting examinations, or for student visitors undertaking miscellaneous study.

• The University reviews the alumni discount annually and reserves the right to vary or withdraw this discount at its sole discretion. However, any changes will not be applied retrospectively.

We have 500 scholarships, worth either £3,000, £6,000 or £16,000 available to support eligible international students.

The awards recognise and reward high academic achievement for students applying to study a taught Masters course starting in September 2026.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for an International Excellence Scholarship, you must:

• be classified as an international student for fee purposes;

• have a conditional or unconditional offer for an eligible taught Masters course starting in September 2026;

• be self-funded or partially-funded;

• demonstrate an excellent academic track record, and be predicted to achieve or have achieved a minimum  of a Bachelor’s degree with a 2:1 (hons) or equivalent;

• show excellent professional and personal skills evidenced through work experience and/or extracurricular activities.

Application deadline

There are two application rounds for this scholarship.

Application round one

• Apply by 5pm GMT on 27 February 2026.

• You will be notified of the outcome by 27 March 2026.

Application round two

• Apply by 5pm BST on 15 May 2026.

• You will be notified of the outcome by 12 June 2026.

An automatic £6,000 fee reduction scholarship is available for international Masters students from an eligible country/region.

International Masters Regional Scholarships help to ease the cost of living, allowing you to focus on your education and achieve your potential. They are automatically awarded to eligible students as a fee reduction.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for an International Masters Regional Scholarship you must:

• be a passport holder from one of the following countries/regions: Egypt, India, Japan, Mexico, Peru, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United States of America, Vietnam;

  • If you hold an eligible passport, but currently live in another country/region, you will be eligible for this scholarship.

  • If you are only domiciled in one of these countries or regions, you will not be eligible for this scholarship.

• be classified as an international fee-paying student;

• be self-funded or partially-funded;

• hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a Masters degree (including MRes) starting in September 2026.

Excluded courses

The following Masters courses are not eligible for the International Masters Regional Scholarship:

• MBA: the MBA currently offers a generous MBA Excellence Scholarships scheme

• All fully-online courses

• Law (2 year Graduate Programme) LLB 

An automatic £5,000 fee reduction scholarship is available for international students from an eligible country/region. 

International Undergraduate Regional Scholarships are designed to help ease the cost of living, allowing you to focus on your education and achieve your potential. They are automatically awarded to eligible students as a fee reduction on your first year’s tuition fee.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for an International Undergraduate Regional Scholarship, you must: 

• be a passport holder from one of the following countries/regions: Canada, Egypt, European Union, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Nigeria, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey, USA; 

  • If you hold an eligible passport, but currently live in another country/region, you will be eligible for this scholarship. 

  • If you are only domiciled in one of these countries/regions, you will not be eligible for this scholarship. 

• be classified as an international fee-paying student;

• be self-funded or partially funded;

• hold a conditional or unconditional offer for an undergraduate course starting in September 2026;

• be entering into year 1 of your undergraduate course.
