Scholarships at University of Birmingham

Dedicated scholarship opportunity for applicants engaged with University academics and Admissions colleagues at China in-country events for 2026 entry.

The University of Birmingham delegation of academics and admissions are coming to China to meet with prospective students and offer holders in this academic year. We hosted an Offer Day Event in Beijing on 15 November, and we are planning for a series of China Open Day events in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou towards end of March 2026.

The University is pleased to announce a number of £1,000 dedicated scholarship for Postgraduate Taught and Undergraduate applicants / offer holders attending these events who have good engagement with academics or have outstanding performance at the spot-offer interviews.

Who can apply?

In order to be eligible, candidates must sign up and attend the in-country events in mainland China mentioned above and check in on the day as instructed.

The scholarship is for 2 full tuition fee scholarships for a full-time postgraduate masters programme starting September 2026.

The University of Birmingham is pleased to announce the generous award of 2 full tuition fee scholarships for Malaysian students applying for entry to a postgraduate taught programme at the University starting September 2026.

We are proud to be offering these joint awards with our local representative MABECS in Malaysia.

Who can apply?

Please note that students already registered and studying on a programme at the University of Birmingham in the UK are not eligible for this award.

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

• You should have an excellent academic background. Candidates should have or be expecting a 2.1 in a bachelor's degree or equivalent.

• Have received and accepted an offer for a full time postgraduate taught programme starting September 2026 at the University of Birmingham (Birmingham campus). The student must be entering the first year of a postgraduate taught programme.

• Meet the academic conditions of their offer to the programme.

• Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship.

• Start their studies at the University in September 2026 (the scholarship award may not be deferred).

• If a scholarship recipient decides to defer their programme start date to September 2026, they will no longer be eligible as the scholarship is only available for programmes starting in September 2026.

• Students seeking to study on a course solely delivered as a ‘distance learning’ programme are not eligible for this scholarship.

• Successful recipients of the scholarships must have completed online university registration and be ‘Normally Registered’ by 3 October 2026 (23:59 UK time/ GMT+1). If this is not the case, the university will withdraw the scholarship.

• Be registered with, and have their postgraduate study application attached to our local representatives MABECS.

• Submit their scholarship application through MABECS by the deadline; 30 June 2026.

The Geoffrey Ma Birmingham Hong Kong Masters Scholarship comprises of awards of £10,000 to support to students study at the University in 2026/27

We are proud to be offering these scholarships funded by The University of Birmingham Hong Kong Foundation in honour of the Foundation’s first Honorary President. University of Birmingham alumnus Geoffrey Ma, held the position of Chief Justice of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal, stepping down from this in January 2021. He graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor of Laws in 1977. In 2011 the University presented him with the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, followed by the inaugural University of Birmingham Hong Kong Medal in 2019. Geoffrey Ma Tao-li (LLB Law, 1977; LL.D, 2011) has been appointed as Honorary Chair and Professor in the Birmingham Law School. These scholarships are focused to give financial support academically talented students from Hong Kong. We thank the Hong Kong Foundation for giving Hong Kong’s brightest the chance to make the most of their talents and be inspired by their legacy. Who can apply?

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

• Have received, and accepted, an offer of a place to study a full-time one-year masters taught programme at the University of Birmingham UK campus starting September 2026.

• Be classed as Hong Kong domiciled.

• Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee payment. Should be able to fund the remaining costs of their studies at Birmingham from other sources.

• Have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living for a year at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.

• Start their studies at the University in September/ October 2026 on a course delivered on-campus, the scholarship award may not be deferred.

• Have paid the standard £3,000 Admissions deposit by the deadline stated in the offer letter.

• Be registered with, and have their postgraduate study application attached to, one of our local representatives – Aston Education, IDP Education, LinkedU, SI-UK Hong Kong. A student may only apply through one local representative.

• Upon enrolment in September 2026, pay their net tuition fees for the first year by 1 November, immediately following enrolment.

• Submit your scholarship application through one of our local representatives by the deadline; 19 July 2026.

The allocation of the award will be made based on academic excellence and a willingness to support the University in promoting the courses and facilities through volunteering whilst studying at the University.

In order to be eligible to apply, candidates must:

• Have received an offer from the University of Birmingham for a full-time undergraduate programme in the above stated subject areas starting September 2026. The student must be entering the first year of an undergraduate programme based at the Birmingham UK campus.

• Expect to at least meet with the requirements below:

  • A-Level: AAA in 3 A-Level subjects

  • IB Diploma: 6,6,6 in Higher Level subjects

  • APs: 5 for 3 APs

  • Gaokao: minimum 80% overall average; and minimum 85% overall in Year 11 and Year 12.

  • Other equivalent qualifications on case-by-case basis

• Be classed as Chinese national or domiciled in China

This scholarship recognises outstanding academic potential and exceptional performance in the University of Birmingham Hong Kong, Macao and GBA Reading Comprehension Competition, delivered in collaboration with IDP IELTS Hong Kong.

The award aims to encourage talented students across the region to pursue undergraduate studies at a leading Global university.

Who can apply?

Applicants must:

• Be ranked in the 85th percentile (top 15%) or above in the Reading Challenge.

• Be a current Form 6 / Year 13 student applying for September 2026 entry to any undergraduate programme at the University of Birmingham.

• Submit a UCAS application on or before 14 January 2026 (equal consideration deadline).

• Hold and meet a conditional offer by 15 August 2026.

• Be classified as an international fee-status applicant.

£5,000 scholarships are available for international students choosing to pursue a Masters degree with us in September 2026.

The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship is offering £5,000 tuition fee discount to international students who choose to study their Masters degree with us at the University of Birmingham in September 2026.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• You must apply for and receive an offer to study a taught Masters degree at the University of Birmingham (UK campus) starting in September 2026.

• You must be domiciled in one of the selected countries listed below.

• You must be classified as an overseas fee payer for tuition purposes by the University.

• You must start your studies in September 2026 on a full-time programme delivered at the University’s UK campus.

• Students in receipt of a full or partial tuition fee scholarship from an external organisation are not eligible. If the University becomes aware that a student is fully sponsored by a third-party organisation (i.e., an organisation is providing a scholarship covering 100% of tuition fees), the student will be disqualified from receiving the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship. If the scholarship has already been awarded, it will be withdrawn. Please ensure you accurately declare your funding source during enrolment.
