University of Bath Student View
"When I embarked on my journey to pursue a master's degree, one of my key considerations was selecting a university that could provide me with the necessary support and opportunities for future employment. For instance, courses that involved strong industry connections, relevant curriculum, internships and co-op programs, and a proven track record of successful graduate employment. These were all important to me when I decided to come to Bath to pursue my master’s in Operations, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management."
Strong industry connections
"The University of Bath understands the importance of bridging the gap between academia and the professional world. With strong industry ties, the university offers students numerous networking opportunities, guest lectures from industry experts, and collaborations with leading companies in the field of operations, logistics, and supply chain management. This exposure enables students to gain firsthand insights into industry trends, challenges, and potential career pathways. By focusing on real-world scenarios and case studies, students develop a practical understanding of the field, equipping them for success in their future careers."
Careers Support
"At the University of Bath, these vital aspects are taken seriously, with a dedicated careers team that offers unparalleled support to students. Every course has been assigned a careers advisor who specialises in the specific jobs and career paths relevant to that field. This tailored approach ensures that students receive personalized guidance and support throughout their academic journey.
"For my course, the careers team is conveniently located within the School of Management itself, providing easy access to students seeking career-related advice. The School of Management's employability hub serves as a central resource for students in the School of Management. It is staffed by careers advisors who are readily available to address students' queries and concerns. There are also careers teams available for all students in all faculties to use. Students have the flexibility to book appointments with their designated careers advisor, allowing for one-on-one discussions regarding career goals, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
Drop-in Sessions
Recognising the importance of accessible support, the University of Bath offers drop-in sessions in the afternoons at the employability hub. These sessions provide a convenient opportunity for students to seek impromptu guidance from career advisors. Whether it's a quick question or a broader discussion about career options, students can pop into the employability hub and engage in meaningful conversations with professionals who are well-versed in the field.
"The availability of drop-in sessions fosters a supportive environment that encourages students to actively seek career-related advice and take charge of their professional development. One of the great things about the School of Management is that we have a dedicated lecture every week that focuses on the job application process. When I first started applying to companies, I made sure to keep track of everything in an Excel sheet. It was really helpful in organizing my applications and keeping tabs on where I was in each stage of the application."
Mock Interview Practice
"I faced my fair share of rejections along the way, and I would often turn to my career advisor for advice. They were amazing in helping me figure out what I could improve and how to get more companies interested in my profile. It was a collaborative effort, and with their guidance, I was able to make the necessary changes and increase my chances of success. My career advisor was incredibly helpful during the assessment centre. They conducted a mock interview for me and provided guidance on how to deliver my presentation effectively. Their support made a significant difference in my preparation and performance on that day.
"This personalized approach to job support sets the University of Bath apart from other institutions. By maintaining a strong connection with students and actively sharing relevant job opportunities, the careers team demonstrates their dedication to student success beyond graduation. Their commitment to supporting students at every stage of the job application process ensures that students feel empowered and well-prepared as they transition into the professional world."
Job Portal
"The careers team at the University of Bath takes its commitment to student success even further by providing a comprehensive job portal and personalized email notifications. Through this portal, students have access to a centralized platform where they can explore the latest job opportunities specifically curated for their field of study. This invaluable resource enables students to stay updated on relevant openings and increases their chances of finding suitable employment.
"Furthermore, the careers team proactively sends email notifications to students, sharing the most recent job postings directly to their inboxes. This approach ensures that students are aware of new opportunities as soon as they arise. By receiving personalized email updates, students can save valuable time and effort that would otherwise be spent searching for job openings on their own. The convenience of having job opportunities delivered directly to their inbox allows students to focus on preparing their applications and maximizing their chances of success. That is how I could identify a job for myself that would suit my background and future aspirations."
Application Form Assistance
"Further, they provided me with assistance in completing my application form, preparing for the video interview, and navigating the assessment centre. The careers team is there to guide students through each step of the application process. Their expertise and insights helped me to showcase my skills and qualifications effectively, enabling me to secure the desired position.
"I cannot rate highly enough the careers team at the University here, and. They have helped me every step of the way so far, and I have every confidence they will continue to support me throughout my career too."
