Scholarships at Solent University

The University offers an Undergraduate Academic Merit Scholarship to reward applicants who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability. These are awarded automatically (no application necessary) based on results, as shown in the example below:

Payment in cash - payable in one instalment in December.

PLEASE NOTE: in order to be eligible for these scholarships, you must meet the publicised course entry requirements at the time of enrolment.

Tariff increase

• Courses that have 104-120 UCAS tariff points - applicants will have to meet 120 to be awarded.

• Courses that have 112-128 UCAS tariff points - applicants will have to meet 128 to be awarded.

This scholarship is based on UK standard qualifications (previous qualifications are subject to a time-frame of three years) and is open to all students who are self-financing.

The University is pleased to offer, as a tuition fee reduction, a limited amount of postgraduate academic scholarships to applicants who achieve the following grades and who are holding an 'unconditional firm' offer on a full-time course:

Tuition fee credit applied once firm accept.

These scholarships are open to all students who are self-financing (not sponsored by their government or employer). 

The scholarship is based on UK standard qualification (previous qualifications are subject to a time-frame of three years).   

It cannot be used in conjunction with any other scholarship, bursary or fee discount. If you are a Solent graduate eligible for an alumni discount you would not be eligible for a PAMS scholarship too. 

The University is pleased to offer, as a tuition fee reduction, a limited number of international academic merit scholarships of between £1,000 and £2,000 for applicants from overseas, and non-settled EU students who are studying a full-time degree level course (not at foundation level) and who exceed the entry criteria for their course.

To qualify, students must currently be studying an international qualification or be studying for an international foundation programme in the UK with an 'unconditional firm' offer on a full-time course (previous qualifications are subject to a time-frame of three years).

Applicants must be self-funded and not sponsored by their government or employer. The scholarship does not apply to Study Abroad students. The scholarship is awarded automatically (no application process) on a 'first-come, first-served' basis as tuition fee reduction. It cannot be used in conjunction with any other scholarships or bursaries. 

The University reserves the right to pro-rata this discount should you suspend or withdraw from study during the academic year.

The scholarships are awarded in the following way:

Solent Sport offers a comprehensive sport programme of an excellent standard. The programme is moulded around your sporting talent and potential, and is designed to help you balance your university career with competing on the national and international stage. 

Athletes applying for the performance sport programme can qualify for a sport scholarship or our High Performance Academy.

Sports scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to athletes competing at national and international levels in a variety of sports, including - but not exclusively - basketball, cricket and football. 

What we offer

• Bursary scholarships from £1,000 up to a maximum of £5,000

• Focus sport services packages

• Individual bespoke athlete services packages

High Performance Academy

Our High Performance Academy provides financial and mentoring support to assist student athletes in reaching their academic and sporting potential. Successful applicants receive a bespoke package of support services and financial bursaries.

Support package

The support package is delivered by a dedicated team of individuals who are fully committed to our athletes' development and sporting success. It includes:

• Strength and conditioning sessions.

• Access to the high performance gym.

• Dual career and lifestyle support

• Physiotherapy support.

• Soft tissue clinics.

• University accommodation discount.

• Complementary Solent Sport club membership.

• Sports science support.

• Athletes bursary and athlete kit.

• Athlete workshops.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into our performance sport programme are:

• Applicants must be full-time or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate students.

• Applicants must have an outstanding ability in a particular sport.

• Applicants must compete at a national or international level (junior or senior), or show strong evidence of the potential to do so.

Scholarships are a reward given to applicants based on final results and accumulate, as per the examples below. Scholarships will be awarded as a tuition fee credit between £250 and £500.

The University offers a Direct Entry (Year 3 and Top-up) Academic Merit Scholarship as a way to reward students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability. These are awarded automatically (no application necessary) based on final results, as shown in the examples below.

This scholarship is based on UK standard qualifications (previous qualifications are subject to a time-frame of three years) and is open to all students who are self-financing (not sponsored by their government or employer).

We recognise that for many Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) students the playing field for entry into university isn’t always level and this can be a barrier to students from these under-represented backgrounds reaching their potential.

For students applying for 2023 entry to our undergraduate courses, Solent University is offering the BAME Student Scholarship.

These scholarships provide eligible first year undergraduate students, from specific ethnic backgrounds, £1,000 each to use towards their university tuition fees or accommodation.

The scholarship is non means tested, non-repayable and available in addition to any other funding that you may also be eligible.

Successful applicants for this one-off scholarship must meet the following criteria:

• Have applied for and hold a firm acceptance, full-time undergraduate course offer from Solent University.

• Have applied for this scholarship through the applicant portal on or before the 31 May 2023 application deadline.

• Are a UK national with ‘home’ fee status who identifies as having one of the following categories of ethnicity:

  • Asian or Asian British

    • Indian

    • Pakistani

    • Bangladeshi

    • Chinese

    • Any other Asian background

  • Black, African, Caribbean or Black British

    • African

    • Caribbean

    • Any other Black, African or Caribbean background

    • Other ethnic group

  • Mixed multiple ethnic groups

    • Mixed White and Black Caribbean

    • Mixed White and Black African

    • Mixed White and Asian

    • Any other Mixed or Multiple ethnic background

  • Other ethnic groups

    • Arab

    • Gypsy or Irish Traveller

    • Any other ethnic group

In support of our vision and values, each year Solent University awards one Solent Sanctuary Scholarship consisting of a full yearly fee waiver and a £3,000 grant to a person seeking sanctuary studying on a three-year undergraduate programme.

To be eligible for the Solent Sanctuary Scholarship, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Seeking asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK, or the partner/dependant of someone seeking asylum or humanitarian protection; or

• Someone, or the partner/dependent of someone, who has been granted Discretionary or Limited Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status.

And

• Have a conditional or unconditional offer from Solent University.

• Be attending a school, college or voluntary group which can provide a reference in support of your application.

• Be unable to access mainstream funding for higher education i.e. Student Finance

• Not have a 'no study' immigration bail condition.

• Live within easy commuting distance of Solent University.

• Not require additional support for living expenses or accommodation other than that provided through the Solent Sanctuary Scholarship

All undergraduate programmes are open to Solent Sanctuary Scholarship applicants except BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Practice, BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing, foundation years and apprenticeships.
