Overview

Arts University Bournemouth was established in 1884 as a specialist institute, and is now one of only fifteen arts universities in the UK. In 2008, the Arts Institute at Bournemouth was awarded Taught Degree Awarding Powers and subsequently became Arts University Bournemouth in July 2009.

Arts University Bournemouth has an extremely high employability rate for graduates from an art institution and has many links with industry, meaning a large number of successful alumni return to teach there. The University’s focus on employability stretches overseas and Bournemouth is involved in numerous international collaborations, partnerships, projects and study-abroad programmes.

Arts University Bournemouth features numerous workshops, a gallery and a purpose-built library with over 50,000 books and more than 45,000 e-books present. Within the library, the Museum of Design in Plastics holds over 12,000 objects which have been specially selected to support courses taught at the university.

Services for International Students

There are currently 450 international students from over 60 countries studying at the university. Arts University Bournemouth receives a high satisfaction level from its students, and is rated as an 'A' institution with the UK Border Agency.

Arts University Bournemouth consistently scores highly for student satisfaction and graduate prospects, and is ranked highest of all specialist creative UK universities. In 2012 the University had a 97.7 per cent employment rate and was rated by 'Which? University' as the number one creative university in the UK. The most recent Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education gave it the highest possible grade, with academic standards and good practice impressing.

Accommodation

Arts University Bournemouth has two residential blocks on campus, while special accommodation days help students meet others who are looking for somewhere private to live, off campus. The Arts University Bournemouth Student Services team will always provide help and advice on where to live and how to apply.

Location

Arts University Bournemouth’s campus is located near the coastal Dorset town of Poole, which is joined to the city of Bournemouth. Arts University Bournemouth provides beautiful beaches and scenery with a pleasant coastal climate and clean air. Larger cities such as Portsmouth and London are easily accessible by train.

Heathrow Airport is approximately two hours’ drive from Arts University Bournemouth, with rail links also available to other major airports such as Gatwick.
