Overview

Change first sentence to: The University of Brighton was formed as Brighton Polytechnic in 1968 by the merging of Brighton College of Technology and Brighton College of Art and was awarded full university status in 1992.

The University is a community of 21,600, almost 3,000 of whom are international, students across five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings, on the south coast of England. The University of Brighton has one of the best teaching quality ratings in the UK and focuses on professional education in areas such as Pharmacy, Engineering, Medicine and Nursing.

In recent years Brighton has moved its focus onto employability, with career planning and development built into each degree at the university. Nearly all degrees at the University of Brighton include a work placement or sandwich year, showing potential employers you have experience working in your chosen field, and also giving the student an insight into what the career requires.

Services for International Students

The University of Brighton currently has students from over 150 countries enrolled. Before and during arrival, a free orientation programme and advice service about visas, accommodation and related issues is available to all international students. All international students are allocated a personal tutor and can use the free English language support service whenever an issue they wish to discuss arises.
