Vivien Flaxman (1944-2008) joined SIA-L 1985 where she became a pioneering figure. She was responsible for leading the validation of SIA’s courses firstly by CNAA and then by the University of Manchester. She became the Institute’s first Academic Director in 1992. In 1997 she led the successful validation of SIA’s MA in Art Business – the first MA of its kind- which was offered the following year. She then led the MA in Art Business until her retirement in 2002. In offering the Vivien Flaxman Scholarship, the Institute intends to further encourage scholarship in the field of Art Business.
There is one full-tuition award scholarship (excluding travel fees) for Art Business. Candidates of all nationalities accepted during the priority application cycle (by March 1, 2019) on the MA in Art Business offered at Sotheby’s Institute of Art-London are eligible to apply for this award.
