Loughborough University is a campus university located in the town of Loughborough, Leicestershire, in the East Midlands of England, about 1.5 hours north of London. As an educational institution, Loughborough University’s roots date back to 1909. Loughborough University has nearly 16,000 students, of whom almost 15 per cent are international from over 100 countries. Loughborough University’s campus is close to the town centre and a short bus ride from the railway station. The campus itself covers an area of 433 acres, one of the largest in Europe, which is very attractive and has many natural and green open spaces.
Ranking
Loughborough University has won 'Best student experience' and 'Outstanding support for overseas students' in the famous awards in the Times Higher Awards for three years running (2006, 2007 and 2008) Both the Times Good University Guide and the Guardian consistently rank Loughborough University in the top twenty of all universities in the UK. Loughborough was names in October 2008 as 'University of the Year' by The Sunday Times.
Only Loughborough, chiefly in recognition of the strength of its applied research, and Oxford Universities have received the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize six times. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise every Loughborough department was found to be undertaking research that is internationally.

Accommodation
Loughborough University has student accommodation for over 6,000 students on campus and can also assist in finding private housing. Accommodation in the University's halls of residence is guaranteed for international undergraduate students for up to 2 years.
Most students live in single study-bedrooms which all have telephones and computer network connections. These rooms are in secure low-rise buildings. Halls of residence have laundries, games and common rooms.

Campus
Loughborough University's main campus is in the Leicestershire town of Loughborough and until 2003 it was developing a secondary campus at Peterborough. The Loughborough campus (once the estate of Burleigh Hall) covers an area of 433 acres, and includes academic departments, halls of residence, The Students Union, two gyms, gardens and playing fields
Health centre
Loughborough University has a full range of on-campus health facilities with doctors, nurses and dentists. All students have full access to the health centre and all health care fees are fully covered by the National Health Service for full-time students.
Location
Loughborough University is situated just 90 minutes away from London by train with over 40 services both ways on weekdays.
The benefits of two majors cities (Nottingham and Leicester) are nearby, giving students easy access to some of the finest shopping, entertainment and leisure facilities in the UK.
Loughborough itself retains the charm of a small market town, and yet has a large selection of evening and entertainment venues, including a multi-screen cinema, theatre, nightclubs and an array of bars and restaurants.
